Mr. B's Welcome Back Lights
So glad to see all of the kids again! More Learning too!
You Do Make Such a BIG Difference in our School
You and your children are so precious to our mission as educators and support staff. We all continue to know that what we do here is vital to the growth and development of the kids. Over the past week, I was in many classrooms checking in on how the transition went from vacation to school. I must say, I was impressed and very happy to see the kids engaged and ready to learn and our staff ready to teach. Really good stuff going on!

The Big Carnival is Back!
The 5k ers aren't the only ones growing!
Our tower garden in Mrs. Brown's room is really taking off. Enjoy the pics below. Two more tower gardens are on order and will arrive soon. Placement of the towers is yet to be determined.
Looking good. . .
A little swiss chard. . .
A little thyme can go a long way for flavor.
Virtual Reality Arrives at Merton
Thanks to the efforts of our technology department and Google, the children in grades 2 and 3 experienced the fascination of being part of the worlds famous landmarks. See the photos below for an idea and be sure to ask a 2nd or 3rd grader about their experience. Fox6 did an interview witih Mary Iwanski who spearheaded the event.
Is that the Great Wall of China?
I can't believe that this is the Taj Mahal!
The Coliseum in Rome? Really?
Is it spring yet?
West side of our school has evidence of bravery on the part of some early spring tulips, daffodils, and crocuses . I think many of us feel the same way about wearing our winter coats for so long.
The fresh mulch is pretty nice!
Is it done snowing yet?
My crocus buddies are hurting.
Filmstrips or storyboards, the work is amazing!
Below are examples of 4th graders demonstration of understanding story and character development. Not only in reading, but in their writing as well. These can be seen to the left of our main entrance. Try to check them out or ask on of our 4th graders about this meathod of retelling a story.
The long version
One of their frames
Kids should be asking themselves questions as they read.
Assembly Wednesday!
Our next asembly will be this coming Wednesday at 8:50 AM. We promptly begin with the Pledge of Allegiance at that time. Please so everything you can to plan on bringing the kids on time. We leave the playground at 8:40. We have a special program that has been designed and will be presented by students. Can't wait!
March Madness with Books
The Finals
So many good books, who will win?
How do brackets fit with reading?
Above you find the brackets for a second grade class which mirrored what was going on in the NCAA tournament. The titles had to make their way through voting by the kids and the results were exciting. Some 4th graders and 3rd graders used the "bracketology" concept in a number of ways to enhance learning.
