A Message from the Principal
“When gratitude becomes an essential foundation in our lives, miracles start to appear everywhere.”- Emmanuel Dagher
In the midst of the holiday season, I cannot help but to reflect on all that I am grateful for as well as look towards the future with excitement and wonder. Blessings abound in both my personal and professional life. As I watch our students flourish and observe our home and school partnership expand, I am continually reminded of the wonderful community that I serve. Professionally, I am also grateful for the staff I am privileged to work alongside each day. Personally, I have my health and the joy of watching my own child learn and grow each day.
Over the past few months, this mindset of intentional gratitude has afforded me many opportunities to view everyday occurrences with more appreciation. It has allowed me to soak up the smallest moments with our students and treasure casual conversations with our staff and parents. As we enter the month of December, I am eagerly awaiting the buzz and excitement seen in an elementary building during the holiday season. Holiday spirit days, Christmas sing alongs, and door decorating contests will be treasured with a new spirit of gratitude. There are so many amazing things happening all around, if we only take the time to stop and enjoy these small moments.
I encourage families to review our December newsletter for important information and exciting events that will be happening throughout the month of December.
Wishing all families a magical holiday season!
Jennifer Eley
Principal

Please review the items in our Lost & Found by clicking below. If you see any item or items that belong to your child, please contact Mrs. Laughman at the elementary school office at 717-528-5147 and the item(s) will be sent home with your child.
CLOTHING REMINDERS - HEALTH ROOM
ATTENTION FAMILIES OF KINDERGARTEN, FIRST AND SECOND GRADE STUDENTS:
Students are required to keep a complete change of clothing (shirt, pants, underwear and socks) in their book bags at all times. There are many reasons for students needing to change clothing outside of having bathroom accidents. Some examples would be spilling their water bottle, food, milk, glue or paint onto their clothing or getting into mud and rain puddles on the playground. The nurse’s office is very limited on the sizes available for students to change into. Students also feel more comfortable in their own clothing instead of borrowed clothing. Please make sure that the clothing is appropriate for the season.
TO ALL FAMILIES:
If your child has borrowed clothing from the health room, please wash and return the items immediately so that others may use them if needed. Look for notices in your child’s take home folders or book bag if they have borrowed clothing and have not returned it.

HOLIDAY GIFTS FOR BSES STAFF
The holidays are the perfect time to thank members of our BSES team who make our children's education possible: teachers, secretaries, aides, bus drivers, nurses, administrators, custodial crew, & cafeteria staff! This can be through a card, hand drawn picture from your child(ren), and/or a small gift. If your family would like to share a holiday gift, refer to our Staff Favorites List for ideas & inspiration!

WINTER WEATHER ALERT
Please take time to refer to your school handbook relating to Emergency Closings where you will find a list of radio and TV stations to turn to in the event of clement weather.
Remember to tune into local radio and TV stations when bad weather is in the forecast to listen for announcements. If you are afraid that you have missed the announcement, call 717-528-4113 or 717-624-4231 and listen to the entire recording. Whenever there is a change in the schedule, the recording that initially picks up your call will give you the information you need to know. Although we hope that the winter is mild and it only snows on weekends, we want you to be aware of our procedures and to be prepared when the need arises.
BREAKFAST WILL NOT BE SERVED WHEN THERE IS A TWO-HOUR DELAY. Breakfast is served when there is a one-hour delay.
With winter weather approaching, we want to remind parents of the importance of having an emergency plan in the event that we should have an emergency early dismissal. Please discuss with your child what they are to do, or where they are to go in the event of an early dismissal. If your child is to go to a different bus stop or to a sitter other than the normal bus arrangements, we must have a note stating the new arrangements. We cannot take your child’s word for it. Calling the school during a snow emergency may be very difficult due to the limited number of phone lines. Do not instruct your child to call you at home or work. We simply cannot accommodate that many calls. You can save your child, yourself, and the office staff a great deal of stress if you send in a note in advance giving us directions in these types of situations. We will keep your direction on file for the entire school year. Notes from last year cannot be used for the 2022-2023 school year. Our goal is to get your child home safely. We do not want to send children to empty homes.
You can also check for emergency closings on Twitter @BSESSupt or @BSES_Eagles or on FACEBOOK @Bermudianspringselementaryschool.
