Fun in First with Mrs. Haney
Welcome! I am so happy you are here!
Hello First Graders!
I hope you had a great summer! I am so happy to have you in my class this year! Our first day of school is Monday, September 11th, and I can't wait to meet all of you! Here is a picture of me. On our first day I will be holding a sign to show you where our class will line up in the morning. Our classroom is room 204 and I know your going to love it!
Tips for the first day of school:
- Please bring a small, healthy snack each day. Since lunch boxes are sent down to the cafeteria first thing in the morning, be sure to pack your snack separate from your lunch.
- Please label everything that you bring to school, such as your backpack, coat, lunch box, and school supplies. Thank you!

All About First Grade
Welcome to one of the most incredible years your child will have! First grade is an exciting time when children experience new adventures and learn skills at a fast rate. You will be impressed by how much your child will grow academically and socially this year.
During first grade we will use several different curriculums to ensure that your child is learning through the most beneficial programs. Your child will learn how to spell without hindering his or her ability to write creatively and share stories. Your child will learn how to read while still enjoying his or her favorite books. Your child will be able to explore and ask questions and then apply it to math or science experiments. Our day will consist of a combination of direct instruction, modeling, guided instruction, hands on learning, technology integration, and learning through social interactions.

Day 3: Physical Education and Spanish
Day 4: Physical Education and Spanish
Day 5: Library
Day 6: Health
I Love Bucket Filling!
"You make the world a better place by making yourself a better person.”
How to be a Bucket Filler:
A "Bucket Filler" is a person who brings happiness to everyone around them through daily words and actions of kindness and love. In this classroom, students will learn about the importance of showing others kindness and behaving positively. The children will see how easy and rewarding it can be to express kindness, appreciation, and love on a daily basis. Moreover, the students will see the negative effects that “bucket dipping,” such as teasing or hurting classmates, has on others as well as themselves. This practice makes our classroom a good place for learning and helps the children to develop socially by identifying and expressing feelings, sharing, making friends, and building relationships and character.
The Bucket-Filling program has several goals:
1. To teach children how to reach out and express love, respect, and appreciation to others
2. To help children become other-centered rather than self-centered
3. To help children express their feelings (good and bad) in a healthy manner
4. To help children understand where feelings originate and how to protect their feelings from being hurt
5. To establish a framework for more constructive words
and actions and less bullying
6. To create more positive home and school environments
