The Culinary class made a beautiful cake this week to celebrate a student's birthday who has been a part of the culinary class throughout their high school career. It is fun to see the students express their creativity through the art of food.

Associated Student Body elections are starting up again. If you would like to run for any ASB positions which include President, Vice-President, Secretary/Treasurer, Spirit Chair, or School-Board Representative, see Mr. Haan for a petition. Petitions are due April 21st.

Talent Search will be visiting Oregon State University on Thursday, April 27, 2023. In addition to the typical campus tour and lunch at the student union, we will attend an Admissions Information Presentation/Student Panel Q&A and a tour of the College of Engineering, the College of Business, and the College of Liberal Arts. Bandon Boys' Golf team took 4th place at the State Preview Tournament at Tokatee Golf Club. Congrats Tigers!

Track Practice is currently every weekday from 3:50 -5 pm at the track.

Track and Field sports photos will be held on April 27th at 4pm. Coaches will be handing out order forms before hand.

The class of 2027 is having a fundraiser raffle! This raffle is put on by a parent volunteer group and is not school affiliated. Tickets are $10. You can purchase them via the office, the numbers on the flier, or through VENMO @Elizabeth-Hewitt-8thgradefunds.

The 8th grade class is holding a bottle/can drive to benefit the 8th grade promotion party. Please bring any bottles or cans you have to our office!

Our lost and found is full! Please remind your student to take a moment to come look through it.

Congratulations to Ryder Stadelman and Sebastian Newby to representing Bandon Middle Schoolers at the Portland "Chess For Success" Tournament on April 15th in Portland. This tournament was a gathering of the "best of the best" youth across Oregon. We are so proud of their achievements!

Starting this semester, we began tracking attendance across grade levels. The results are in for the month of February. The class with the best attendance at the end of the year will receive an ice cream party!

4th place - 8th grade with 85.25% attendance

3rd place - 6th grade with 85.39% attendance

2nd place - 7th grade with 86.01% attendance

1st place - 5th grade with 88.32% attendance

Due to popular demand, Chess club will be continuing at the Bandon Public Library every Thursday at 3:30 PM

All of our students should have signed a behavior agreement form that acknowledges that they have reviewed the student handbook, and know what the behavior expectations are at HLMS. We would appreciate it if you could take a moment to review the student hand book (link below) as well.

Just a reminder, students are not allowed to have cell phones out during school hours. We require them to be kept off and in their locker or backpack during the day. This includes breaks and at lunch. Please encourage your student to come to the office or their teachers if they have a concern or need help instead of reaching out to you via cell phone during the day. This way we can help make sure that all your student's needs are being met. We have a student phone available in the commons that is always available.

The Character Focus for the month of April is Courage.

Valley Flora wanted to alert you to a few new programs that we - and other NW farms - are spearheading in in order to make fresh, local produce more accessible to low income families in our community. We’re trying to get the word out as widely as possible. If you have a spot to hang a poster (attached below), or room for a mention in your next newsletter, that would be wonderful! We are happy to provide you with a color-printed poster, just let us know! Also, please feel free to forward this email to anyone in your networks who would benefit from knowing about these programs.

• Double Up Food Bucks (DUFB): a program that helps low-income Oregonians purchase more fruits and vegetables while supporting local, family farms. Folks with SNAP benefits can purchase one of our farm’s community supported agriculture (CSA) shares and DUFB will provide 1:1 matching funds (they pay half the cost of the CSA with SNAP and DUFB covers the other half). It's a win-win that strengthens our community by providing better access to fresh, healthy food while helping local farmers earn a living.

• CSA Sliding Scale: our farm is offering a voluntary sliding scale payment system in order to make our food more accessible to everyone in the community. It’s been a beautiful example of community - and humanity - at its best.
