School Newsletter - 11 August
Endeavour School - August 11th, 2022
Principal's Message
Today I write to you from the brisk, but beautiful city of Dunedin. The wonderful history that sits within this city is both rich and raw.
This week, I am privileged to lead a contingent of 42 Waikato Principals on a Study Tour to Otago. We start here in Dunedin and then travel inwards to Queenstown, finishing our Tour in the quaint little township of Arrowtown. The focus of this Study Tour is designed around building our Local Curriculum and the lens we use when designing it. Down here in the South, they are well known for using their local resources and people to support the learning programmes for their tamariki. While though at times being geographically isolated it could be assumed they are forced to draw on their local resources to design their curriculum, what I have found is in their eyes it is also the most appropriate resource, a lens from what I have seen to be quite true!
The learning for me and curiosities that I have generated, is how well do we draw on our local resources at Endeavour, what behaviours and ways of operating do these schools down here do, that we could learn from, adopt and make our own to ensure we continue to build on being authentically Endeavour?
On another note over the past couple of weeks we have been spoiled by several Art performances here at school. Week 1 we had Beatbox NZ, last week the Strike Music group and then this week a more international flavour with Taiko Drummers. It is often thought that the Arts are the poor cousin of the curriculum subjects despite their absolute value. It is nice to note that at Endeavour the range of the Arts Curriculum is visible across our school and I am proud of the richness it provides our young learners.
Thank you to all for your ongoing support of our teaching team and wider staff. It has been a wonderful few weeks into the term.
Warm Regards
Geoff

Whats Been Happening?
Mrs Wells Literacy - LC2
We have been learning about owls. We have read lots of different fiction and non-fiction books. Last week we learnt about what owls like to eat. They have really sharp claws called talons so they can rip their prey. Owls eat small birds, fish, worms, insects and even small mammals!
