Notes for a New Week...

Campus Behavior Expectations Update from Colter
Hello Super Central! First off, thank you for all you have done to implement more Conscious Discipline techniques throughout our campus! I know Conscious Discipline takes a bit more forethought but I believe it can be so beneficial for our students. I will be providing some genuine choices for our hallway, recess, and cafeteria expectations very soon but wanted to give you an idea of some specific changes and invite you to give me some feedback first!
Hallway Expectations
I would like to change one specific hallway expectation while I think the rest are excellent. Up until now the expectation has been a 0 level voice, unfortunately this is not a reality on our campus for students, staff, or visitors. I propose a culture change that starts with us and then trickles down to our visitors and students. A low or level 1 voice maintains an appropriate noise level while allowing information to be shared. A level 1 will allow teachers, counselors, interventionists, parents, etc. to communicate with our students in the hallway without sending a mixed or confusing message. Of course each teacher can and should provide specific classroom choices while walking through the halls but the campus expectation will no longer be 0 level only, our campus legitimately has the option to whisper or communicate at a level 1 in the hallways. At this time I am asking all staff to lead by example as we make this shift!
Recess Expectations
I look forward to touching base with each grade level as the needs and issues of each age group are very different. My focus for recess expectations will be on:
Safety: how we monitor students and respond to injuries
Communication: How information is shared with students outside or with the campus over radios
Boundaries: Where we can play safe and how we can play safe
Cafeteria Expectations
I believe lunch time is critical for social development in our students, and social connectedness with our parents. That being said I love our current cafeteria expectations and want to emphasize the opportunity our students have to connect and talk with each other and those that come to visit in the cafeteria. Teachers I do ask that every grade level bring their classes to the tables and pick them up from the tables in order to prevent chaos that ensues when classes wait in the hallways to be picked up.
I have loved this first week of school and am so proud of all of our staff for being flexible and making the start of our 2016-2017 school year such a smooth one! It is so good to see great educators doing what they do best after a long summer!
Daily Announcements
T-TESS Goal Setting
You can complete this form here:
https://lubbockcooper.schoolobjects.com
Those of you who will be appraised under T-TESS this year will have a conference with your appraiser to go over the goals for the school year. Appraisers will be contacting their assigned staff members to schedule these conferences over the next few weeks.
Lesson Plans
All lesson plans should include:
TEKS Addressed (no more than 2-3)
Lesson Objectives (kid-friendly language)
Activities
Differentiation
Assessment
You can type your plans directly into Eduphoria or attach a PDF or other format. If you do this, the only thing you will need to do is to selected the appropriate TEKS. The Curriculum Department plans to use the reports feature to analyze the number of times certain standards are being taught over the course of the year.
We do also understand that some lessons will be taught over more than one day. If this is the case, please make a note to refer to the initial date. For example, a lesson taught Monday-Wednesday one week could have the lesson plan on Monday only, with notes on Tuesday and Wednesday to "See Monday's plans".
Dr. Satterwhite and the Curriculum & Instruction staff, along with campus administrators, will begin reviewing lesson plans in Forethought soon with the expectation that all staff members will have all lesson plans in the system on a consistent basis by the end of the first six weeks. Plans for the week are due by 8:00 AM on Monday morning.
Staff Shirts & Jackets
I hope everyone had a wonderful first week!!!!!! I wanted to let you all know that I have some samples in the workroom. Cardinals only had the zip up jacket and a large of the ladies shirt. I am hoping that everyone can see the style and decide their fit from there. Even though there are pants on the order form, we cannot wear them to school.
Several had asked about having the LCP logo monogrammed on the polos rather than the Central Logo. Please indicate on the order form if you want the LCP logo and what items you want it on. If no comments are made, the Central Logo will be used.
Orders will need to be turned in by Friday, September 2nd. If you have any questions please see Amanda Dunn!
