A Note from Mrs. Patterson

Parents and Students,

We know that the middle school years are a time where friendships and social connections are important. We are always looking for new ideas to allow our students to connect more, and we have some plans for next school year that will hopefully allow that. The safety of our students is our priority, and that is why we are very cautious about the interactions that we allow.

Sometimes, our students share their personal information (emails, gaming tags, phone numbers) with other students. We ask students not to do that for many reasons, but it does often happen. And while most of the outside interactions that our students have are positive and students are building great friendships, we have had a few reports of some isolated incidents that have not been positive. As a school, we discourage the use of programs like Discord, Snapchat, and non-school Google interactions with other students UNLESS they have the express permission of their parent/guardian. In those instances, it is the job of the parent/guardian to monitor those interactions. SCVCS does not have the ability to monitor these programs.

Again, we are working on some things that we hope next year will allow some more "social" interactions with our students. Until then, students....if someone is messaging you and being rude, threatening, or inappropriate, block them immediately or leave the program. Tell your parent/guardian. Parents/guardians, please monitor the interactions your child has with others, even those outside of SCVCS.

I hope you all have a wonderful weekend! One more week until SPRING BREAK!

Weekly Assignments

Weekly Assignments Calendars are available by team. Your child's team number can be found at the top of their schedule that you received from the counselor. You can also tell this from Schoology. Find the student's homeroom class on the student's Courses page. The section number is their team number. We are trying out a new format. I hope you like it!

Weekly Assignment Calendars

Assignments are due on the date shown on the assignment calendar. Students have until Sunday at midnight of that week to submit these assignments for full credit. After that, students will have one additional week to submit work for 80% credit. After two weeks, assignments will close.

Elective class assignments can be found on the Assignment Calendars found inside of the course.

Sensational Salamanders

Today, we have a few awesome drawings from Marcus S. in the 7th grade.

Want to share some original artwork, poetry, short story, or something else creative that you do? Send it to Mrs. Patterson at mpatterson@scvcs.org. It must by your own original work!

Jigsaw and Google

Students, please make sure you are using your SCVCS gmail account when logging into Jigsaw and when you do anything with Google Drive. Some of you are using personal email accounts, which will cause you some issues with accessing live classes or completing assignments using Google. If you need assistance with your Gmail accounts, please contact our tech support at 803-253-6222 and choose Option 5.

Online enrollment for current students to re-register for the 2023-2024 school year must be completed to secure your spot. Please log into your PowerSchool Parent Portal at this link: https://cie.powerschool.com/public/home.html and use your parent login – if you log in as the student you will not see the Intent to Return link. The link for Intent to Return is all the way at the bottom of the left side of the screen.

If your student will not be returning to SCVCS, please complete the form by answering "No" to the first question. This allows us to open seats for additional students as we plan for next year.

Please let us know if you have any questions or need assistance by contacting our office at 803-253-6222 option 3, emailing us at enrollment@scvcs.org, or you can visit our website at www.scvcs.org.

If you are a current 6th or 7th grader and you will be returning to SCVCS for the 2023-2024 school year, it is time to begin making your course selections!

If you attended our March 10th Town Hall meeting, I discussed this process at great length. If you'd like to view that session, you can get the recording at the link below. Note that the information about Course Selection begins at the 17:18 minute mark.

In order to select your courses, you must first be re-registered with SCVCS for the 2023-2024 school year. If you need assistance with re-registration, please contact enrollment@scvcs.org for assistance.

Once you have completed that process, you can complete the Course Selection form. Begin by reviewing the Course Selection information by clicking HERE.

Once you are ready to select courses, click the link to the Course Selection form within that document to select courses. If you have any questions, please contact your Counselor.
