RBBCSC Parent to Parent Newsletter
July 2018
2018-2019 Calendar
Wednesday, August 8th: REGULAR HOURS
2018-2019 Registration Information
New students to RBBCSC need to be registered at their school building during school hours starting on Friday, July 27th.
Returning students to RBBCSC (including already registered Kg students) need to be registered online through the family Harmony account (LINK) on Monday & Tuesday, July 30 & 31st. Parents need to click onto each child's name, scroll to the bottom of the page and fill out all required documents. Parents will not be able to log-in until Monday.
School fees will NOT be available until the end of August. An email notification will be sent out.
Teacher Placement & Schedules
Teacher placement for EPS/EIS students is done about a week before school starts. Administrators must wait until registration is complete so they can make necessary adjustments. Parents will be notified through email. Please note that if a teacher assignment is showing when you go to register in Harmony, that it could very likely change.
Schedules for EJHS students will be available at the end of the day Friday, August 3rd in Harmony.
Schedules for EHS students will be available Monday, August 6th in Harmony.
School Supply Lists
Please note, EHS students DO NOT have a regular list of supplies.
Late-Start Wednesdays - starts 8/15
2 Hour Delay Schedule
The district also notifies radio stations, changes the stoplight on the webpage to a yellow, and posts on the district's Facebook page whenever there is a delay or cancellation.
Transportation
It is important that all information in Harmony is updated. If your email information needs to be updated before registration, you will need to call your child's school to do this.
It is crucial that addresses, phone numbers, email addresses, and emergency contact information is correct through-out the school year.
Parents who have a child who will NOT be picked-up/dropped-off at their residence will need to fill out an Alternative Address form at the school.
Parents of EPS/EIS students, please make sure your child's teacher KNOWS in writing how your child will go home the first several days of school, as it often changes until a routine has been established. Many teachers have a form for this at open house, but it helps to have this information ready or sent in the first day of school.
Parents who plan to drop-off/pick-up their children will need to inquire at the school to see what the procedures are. Each school is different. The directions for EPS & EIS are below in the section about dismissal being late the first few days of school.
Volunteer Background Checks
Dress Code
Please note: dismissal will run late at EPS/EIS on the first few days of school.
Please NOTE:
* Parents who will be dropping-off or picking-up at EPS/EIS, please review this document.
* Please let your child(ren)'s teacher(s) know how your child will go home everyday for the first 2 weeks and even a typical schedule once you know it. (For instance, some students' routes will change once Boys & Girls Club re-opens for the school year. There will be more information on that once dates are solidified.)
* Please only call the schools with changes to transportation before 2 p.m. (standard procedure). The phones will be very busy those first few days, so please have patience. Letting your child's teacher know ahead of time will save you and the office time. Please DO NOT send emails to your child's teacher about transportation changes. There is a good chance he/she will not be able to check email during the school day.

Performance Enrichment Days! What are they?
RBBCSC has been designated a Performance Qualified School District for the 2018-2019 school year. A school district or high school earns this status by receiving an ‘A’ rating in the previous year. By being a Performance Qualified School Corporation, RBBCSC is permitted to exercise flexibility in our school calendar.
RBBCSC has chosen to take advantage of this opportunity in the following strategic ways:
Parent-Teacher Conferences
- October 4 (1/2 day)
- October 5 ( 1 full day)
Two Professional Development Days
- September 12 (1 day)
- March 27 (1 full day)
Students will not physically come to school on these three and a half days that we are calling ‘Performance Enrichment Days’. Instead, students will be given standards based educational activities that are aligned with their current studies to work on from home.
EJHS and EHS students will utilize their Chromebooks to complete the assigned activities. EPS and EIS students will be given a list of enrichment activities to work on during a Performance Enrichment Day. These activities may involve elementary students finishing the assignment on their Chromebooks or iPads when returning to school.
Students will be credited for attendance on a Performance Enrichment Day based on meeting teacher expectations for the assigned educational activities. More details will follow as we get closer to the first Performance Enrichment Day.

Meet Our New EJHS Principal, Mr. Siegelin
I am excited to join the RBB family as Principal at Edgewood Junior High. I received my BS from Indiana Wesleyan University in Secondary Math Education and MS from Indiana University in Educational Leadership. I have had the opportunity to work at the high school and junior high level. I was a math teacher at Trinity High School in North Carolina and at Warren Central High School in Indianapolis. After three years at the high school, I made the switch to the junior high level and have never left. I had the opportunity to work at Chapel Hill 7/8 Center on the west side of Indianapolis as a math teacher, team leader, and co-department chair. While teaching, I was always passionate about coaching, partly for my love of sport and partly for my desire to connect with students outside of the classroom walls. I coached football, wrestling, and baseball. In 2013, I was fortunate to be offered the position as Assistant Principal and Athletic Director at Tri-North Middle School. I served in that role for five years.
I am married to Jessica and this past June we celebrated our 14th year of marriage. We are blessed with three great kids, Ava, Jonah, and Lilah. All three of our children will be students in the RBB school system this year. As a family we have loved being part of this community and the way that the school system has worked hard to create opportunities for families to be involved in the education of our children. My goal has always been to work and serve in the community where we live, and with this new position at EJHS, I am getting to fulfill that dream. This community is important to my family and we feel blessed to be here.
My goal for EJHS is to work hard to continue and build upon the academic success of the recent years while working hard to get parents and families more involved at the secondary level. Please feel free to reach out to me via email at jsiegelin@rbbschools.net or phone at 812-876-2005 if you have questions, concerns, or to share ideas on how we can continue make EJHS the best experience for students and children.
