Hello from Mr. Roy
Happy Friday!
It has been another fun week at Fleming and we are just one week away from late winter break! There were some great things happening in classrooms this week. 4th grade students were learning to summarize non-fiction texts, some 5th grade students were getting excited about planning their cross-country “road trips” and I saw 5th grade students really working hard on their math assignments (you could hear a pin drop!). Students were also so excited to film and watch their dance routines for this year’s dance off! Ms. McClintock did an amazing job getting all of the students ready and the students did an incredible job! On top of all of this, it was I Love To Read And Write Week and yesterday morning the entire school did a STOP, DROP, and READ activity. Please ask your students about all of the great things going on at Fleming School! I hope you all have a great weekend!

PBIS News 1/29/21
Wow - winter is flying by with these healthy challenges! Last week students completed daily Mind Yetis - mindfulness practices - to learn to calm the body and the mind. We practice these skills to increase focus in the classroom, and they are fun! We ended the week with Crazy Hat and Socks Day.
This week we doubled the fun with “I Love to Read and Write Week.” All week long we enjoyed listening to books, guessing mystery books, and together we wrote an entire story - the whole school! We listened to Amanda Gorman’s amazing Inauguration Day poem (our youngest poet laureate), and we all got to “Stop, Drop and Read” on Thursday.
Today we are wearing REaD (see what we did there?) to celebrate the end of a great week of books, books and more books.
Ask your students what new stories they heard this week. We have one more week of our Winter Healthy Challenges - it’s going to be a fun one!
As always, thank you for supporting your student in being safe, kind, respectful and responsible.
A Helmet Opportunity for Families
We have a bunch of Youth XL helmets up for grabs, if anyone is interested, and thought what a great way at the same time, to help students in our community. If you can afford, we are asking for a $5 -$10 donation, in exchange for a brand new Anon helmet from Burton. The money we collect will go towards gift cards to families in need within our Fleming Community.
It would be helpful, if you could measure your child's head, the helmets will fit anywhere between 53cm and 58cm. Please email me at jaldrich@ewsd.org or call the office with the measurements, student's name, and quantity wanted, if the sizing works for you, I will work with your student to pick one out. If you have a child at Summit or Hiawatha, that it would better fit, that's ok too! I will work with you to get a helmet that works with your child. This will be on a first come first served basis as long as supplies allow. If you can not afford a $5-$10 donation, we would still be happy to give your student a helmet, as it's such a great opportunity to protect those growing minds!
