Mr. Miranda is proud to announce this week's Students of the Week. These students have accomplished a goal or shown to have mastered a concept.

5th Grade: Kristina Peacock

Kristina played this week her orange belt (the Star Wars theme) on her ocarina by memory.

4th Grade: Hyunwoo Shin

Hyunwoo played his orange belt on his ocarina (Bonavist Harbor) while keeping the beat on his foot. He did this at a faster tempo, showing mastery of his ocarina notes.

3rd Grade: Lane Swindull

Lane played his orange belt on his ocarina (Chicken on the Fencepost) while reading his notes on the treble clef. He did this at a faster tempo, showing not only mastery of his ocarina notes but also of his music reading skills.

2nd Grade: Cooper McDonald

1st Grade: Dayton Royse, Miles Morrow, Brooks Puskala, Chase Hubert

These four boys sang the song "Bonjour Mes Amis". They did the dance with the correct motions, used their right hands to make a four person hand circle, and on the last verse said, "Thank you for being my partner," to each person in the group before they sat down for their music lesson.

Honor Choir Spotlight

This week our Honor Choir students had an hour long area rehearsal with the rest of the choristers from Denton ISD's 5th grade Honor Choir. This chorus met from the following campuses: Adkins, Blanton, Borman, EP Rayzor, Hawk, Sam Houston and many more. The practice session was at Nelson Elementary and our 10 students did a great job representing Blanton.

Megan Gorman earned MVP chorister throughout the rehearsal from the area choir director, Mrs. Beutner. for analyzing the score on multiple songs.

From top to bottom, left to right. Top row - Kennedy May, Amelia Coker, Olivia Johnston, Matilyn Callender. Middle Row - Natalee Haverland, Iris Hofmann, Isabella Walker.

First Row - Megan Gorman, Trevor Rennels.

Blanton Career Day is coming May 15th!

We are excited to host a fantastic Career Day again this year at Blanton. Because so many of our parents and community members have been willing to volunteer their time each year, we continue to foster some meaningful community, business and family relationships as well as create fun and educational memories for our students. This day has become one of our favorites!

This year our Career Day will be held on Friday May 15th and we are hoping to add even more presenters to provide ample opportunities for student learning as they develop their career interests.

As we begin to create our schedules for this day, we would like to collect some information from those of you who are interested in participating.

If you are interested and are available on this day, please click here to provide us more information as soon as possible and no later than March 4th.

We are excited about getting our community involved with our school through our Career Day events.

Thank you so much for your support!

EXPO Referrals for Spring

Denton ISD's program for Gifted and Talented students is called EXPO. Gifted and talented students are those who excel consistently or who show the potential to excel in general intellectual ability, specific subject matter aptitude, and creative and productive thinking. These students require educational experiences beyond those normally provided by the regular school program. Students are identified through the use of multiple criteria specified by our district.

The spring semester referral deadline for EXPO is February 13th. Forms are available in the main hallway or on Mrs. Turner's website. We encourage you to contact Mrs. Turner if you have any questions.

All Kids Bike

We would like to thank the Parham Family (Zach, Bree, Kaiden-5th, Kinlee-3rd) for donating 22 Strider bikes and helmets to Blanton in order to participate in the All Kids Bike program. This program utilizes Strider balance bikes to ensure that all kindergarten students learn how to successfully ride bicycles. Mrs. Dorrell and Ms. Thompson will be able to rotate students through to make sure everyone has a chance to learn how to ride. Thank you, Parham Family!

Save the Date for FUN RUN!!

Fun Run is the primary fundraiser for Blanton PTA. We don't sell wrapping paper, candy, or cookies... we just ask that you make a simple donation and ask a few friends and family, too! We will have a new online pledge system this year which will allow to you very easily send the donation link to friends and family as well as track your student's donation progress.

We have a large goal of $25,000 in student donations this year. These funds allow the PTA to continue to provide special programming for students, grants for teachers and the school, as well as the fun family events we are able to provide. We want to continue to do amazing things for our staff and students and all it takes is a donation. If just each Blanton student could get $50 in donations we would meet our goal.

Be on the lookout during February for details on the pledge system and individual student pages. We'll also be unveiling all the super cool prizes students can win!

We are currently looking for corporate/business sponsors for Fun Run. If you, or someone you know, owns a business or works for a business that would like to be a sponsor, please visit the Fun Run link on for more information on sponsor levels and benefits.

2020-2021 PTA Board

It's only February and it's hard to believe that we're already starting to think about the next school year, but we are! We are currently seeking individuals who are interested in serving on the PTA Board for the 2020-2021 school year.

If you're interested in serving on the board in an Executive role, as a committee chair, or if you just have questions about what being a board member is all about, email and we'll get you involved! Information on positions available for the coming school year can be found on
