Vision Screenings
The New Jersey State School Health Program requires that vision screenings be done routinely on school-aged children. The purpose of these screenings is to identify students who may need further evaluation. The state requires that the school refer students for further evaluation if:
- Visual acuity results of 20/40 or less are obtained.
- If children display a two-line difference in visual acuity between the left and right eyes.
School vision screenings are not diagnostic. A referral means only that there is sufficient deviation in a child’s visual condition to justify a more complete examination. These screenings are beginning this week, please make sure that you send your child with their glasses if they wear them.
Family Life Curriculum
We will begin the Family Life portion of the Health Curriculum on Wednesday, May 15th. Please use the following link to preview the contents of each lesson http://www.chatham-nj.org/Page/6937. The fourth grade will be learning how their own bodies go through puberty and the fifth grade will review changes in their own body and additionally learn the anatomy of the opposite sex.
If you would prefer that your child not participate in the Family Life Lessons, please send an email to Mrs. Russo, crusso@chatham-nj.org. If your child does opt out of the Family Life Curriculum, they will be provided with an alternative activity for the next three Health periods. Please contact David Shellenhamer or Randy Raffo if you have additional questions.
