Spanish 1 w/ Señor Hall at NCVPS
Updates from Señor Hall for Spanish 1
Spanish 1 Week 2
General Reminders
-Remember to use capital letters at the beginning of a sentence in both Spanish and English. :)
- Proper nouns like the names of people, places and things should be capitalized.
-Don't forget periods at the end of sentences in Spanish. Its just like English in this way. :)
-Please use complete sentences when answering the questions.
-Lastly make sure to pay attention to proper spelling in both languages.
Accent Marks
Please pay attention to your accent marks. They cost you points and can change the meaning of the word in Spanish.
This website can help: spanish.typeit.org
Try these steps to get the write accent marks:
1) Google how to make accent marks with your specific brand and model of computer and follow the instructions there
2) Use a Word document to create your dialogue using the insert symbols option.Click Insert, then Click Symbols and select Normal Text for every accent mark option none to man.
Using Cryptic Codes
If, for some reason, you don't want to change your keyboard, you can always type in the troublesome cryptic codes. Using this arcane system, the following codes apply:
á = Alt + 0225
é = Alt + 0233
í = Alt + 0237
ó = Alt + 0243
ú = Alt + 0250
ñ = Alt + 0241
ü = Alt + 0252
¡ = Alt + 0161
¿ Alt + 0191
Mac Users
To get accents on the Mac, hold down the Option key, and while holding it down, type the letter e; then release those keys and type the letter that you want the accent to appear on:
- á = Opt + e, then a
- é = Opt + e, then e
- í = Opt + e, then i
- ó = Opt + e, then o
- ú = Opt + e, then u
For the ñ, hold down the Option key while you type the n; release and type n again.
- ñ = Opt + n, then n
To place the diaeresis over the u, hold down the Option key while pressing the u key; release and type u again.
- ü = Opt + u, then u
The inverted punctuation marks are achieved as follows:
- ¡ = Opt + 1
- ¿ Opt + shift + ?

Always make sure they are keeping up with the Course Schedule of Assignments. I would suggest downloading it and printing it out to make sure you are completing all of the assignments.
Here is the hyperlink for the Spanish 1 Schedule of Assignments:
https://docs.google.com/document/d/1sp8ZAY-P4FTGA8-2rjC_aXtRKUP9mROhCb0KnGlUE5U/edit
Only the assignments listed there will be counted for your grade. The Práctica and Actividades activities are practice and do not count for your grade, although they MUST be completed in order to move forward in the course.
Required Live Class (RLC) Schedule
The purpose of the Required Live Classes (RLC) is to give students access to their teachers for lessons, Q & A and support in their Spanish classes. The RLC sessions are offered every week at a variety of times. You may attend any session you like. Choose the one that best fits your schedule.
Here is a Google Calendar link to all the Spanish 1 sessions:
Just pay attention to the times, dates and topics:
Remember GS = Getting Started
U1 = Unit 1
U2 = Unit 2
After attending each session, you need to complete a brief reflective assignment including the following items:
When did you attend (provide date and time)?
Who was the teacher/presenter?
What did you cover/learn? (You should include a complete copy of your notes with at least 10 specific things discussed/covered.)
What do you still have questions about? (You should always have questions, so do NOT put "none.")
What do you need to work on/improve? (This should be specific, regarding at least one thing that was discussed in the session.)
How do you plan to improve in the area/s listed above? (Again, be as specific as possible.)
How can I (your teacher) help you? (Again, be as specific as possible.)
Please use COMPLETE SENTENCES in your responses and submit this at the bottom of the RLC Assignment page.
