Every Student. Every Day. Whatever It Takes.
I cannot believe August is here! Although there is a quietness to the campus when everyone is gone, it doesn't take long to begin missing the energy that is experienced when the entire community is at the Nest. The theme for this school year is Collaboration, Care, Community, and Courage. More about the theme will be discussed during orientation. I look forward to having new teachers return on Monday, August 6, 2018. All Chairs of our new faculty members are asked to join us for lunch at 12 noon on Monday. We will then meet for our Faculty & Staff orientation on Tuesday, August 7, 2018. The Faculty/ Staff retreat will be on Wednesday, August 8, 2018 at the USC Caruso Center. More information to follow.
Blessings to you and your family!
See you next week

Class sweatshirts- Community
During our end of year meeting, many of you mentioned the need for students to to have class pride. Class pride creates community. Beginning fall 2018, students will be allowed to represent their class via Verbum Dei sweatshirts. We will need your help ensuring that students have on their shirt and tie under the sweatshirts. Not to worry-- we have communicated the expectation for collared shirt/tie to students and parents. If you would like to purchase a sweatshirt or any other Verb gear you can order at vickiemarsha.com.

On Friday, Dr. James will be working with individual departments- schedule to follow. Please bring your books and come ready to engage and take notes.

Assemblies- Community
Please watch the video above around the daily assemblies that Urban Prep in Chicago, Illinois has made a part of their school tradition. Wouldn't it be great if we could carve some time to pray together, remind students about the Grad @ Grad, and recognize student achievement? STAY TUNED.

MORE COLLABORATION AND PLANNING TIME!!
The article Getting Reform Right: What Works and What Doesn't by M. Fullan and M. Miles asserted that collaborative time for teachers to undertake and then sustain school improvement may be more important than equipment or facilities or even staff development. Our current Monday meeting schedule did not allow time for true collaboration. To this end, we have increased time for our faculty meetings to 85-minutes. In addition, the first Monday of every month will be an All Faculty and Staff meeting. On all other Mondays we will meet for prayer and teachers will be dismissed to their department meetings.
Grade levels will meet weekly on their students work day. Please review the new Monday schedule and grade level meeting schedule below.
