This program is in the planning stages. However, since it's a possibility for next year students are being allowed to forecast for & apply for it. It will take 3 periods in a student's high school schedule & students will travel to RCC Table Rock Campus each afternoon for their courses there. The program will be limited to a max of 18 students. Students must be a Junior or Senior in the 23-24 school year to be eligible.
During the month of February, students have been working on completing the activities in YouScience during their NEST in order to get their results & then be able to review them as well. Students will also be asked to share information and their results from YouScience during spring Student Led Conferences. However, since students are currently in the midst of completing families can explore and discuss all things YouScience now if wanted as well. The following YouScience flyer link provides more information about the YouScience platform but it’s even more than this. With their results, students will also learn the language and short statements to speak to and about themselves; their natural strengths, talents & abilities (aptitudes). In turn, this can assist and support students in communicating to others about themselves and all of their aptitudes; academic, employment, and scholarship applications, resumes, essays, personal statements, etc.
What’s Happened So Far & Where Have We Been:
RCC Allied Health Demo Days Event
27 Seniors, Juniors and Sophomores were fortunate to have the opportunity to partake in the Allied Health Demo Days Event at the RCC Table Rock Campus on February 8th. The RCC programs and areas of study that were explored & highlighted were: Dental Assisting, Medical Assisting, Nursing/CNA, Phlebotomy, Occupational Therapy Assistant, and EMT/Paramedic via Mercy Flights. This event was held in the new Allied Health Building, which is equipped with some of the most recent technology, equipment, and lab spaces in the industries.
Those that attended indicated that it was a worthwhile, informative, and beneficial experience. Students were divided into six groups along with students from a few other local schools, these groups of six then rotated through each of the six programs with a wrap-up session and lunch at the end. Students were not only provided with information about the specific programs represented but also the various careers within the fields, opportunities in these programs at RCC - the certifications and degrees that can be earned as well as how to pursue these opportunities. Furthermore, each of the six stations and experiences provided students time for Q & A as well as hands-on experiences - all led by experts in the field and instructors within the programs.
