K3 News!!
March 4th-8th
Open house is NEXT Thursday March 7th. Please come by anytime between 5:30-7:00- don't forget to go to the Art Show! The kids are so excited to show off their work. Hope to see you there!
Coin Practice at home!
Kids have been learning the 4 main coins in class for the last 2 weeks. We are still struggling just a bit on the nickel and quarter especially.
Please practice at home identifying the coins in your purse or wallet. Have your kids sort them and tell you how they know it's that coin. We learned the faces of everybody on the coin, and they need to look at them and be able to tell you that is a quarter because of George Washington or that it's the biggest coin etc.
Activity we play- throw a bunch of coins on the floor and tell the kids "go pick up a penny" or "go get a quarter and a dime". It's super important they know what each coin is because in first grade they start counting coins!

WORD PROBLEMS!! I'm going to start putting in a word problem each week in the newsletter. It would be a fun idea to do this word problem with your kiddo at home! Have them show you the 6 step problem solving process:
6 Step process:
1. Read the question
2. Rewrite the question in a statement: (There are ___ markers in all)
3. WHO or WHAT is the problem about
4. Draw a model (part part whole)
5. Solve your equation -- (make a numberline, draw a picture, something to show how you solved it)
6. Check your answer
Word Problem:
There were 12 donuts in the box. Sloan ate 4 of the donuts. How many donuts are left in the box?
Soil Bags please!
This is not mandatory, but I would love to have some collections of soil for science in the next couple of weeks. Please have your child go collect some soil in a bag and send it to school ! We are going to be comparing soil, seeing what is inside, and mixing soil with water. If you have time, please send some soil to school next week!
Our class won the pizza party from Cicis!!! YAY!! The kids are so excited- we are going to have it on March 8th at 2:00pm as our snack that day!
HEADPHONES PLEASE!
All kids need headphones every day at school. We use the ipads for all kinds of activities and for their assessments, they need headphones to focus. I'm so sorry some of the headphones are breaking. Kids are either chewing on the cords, yanking them out of their ipads, or splitting them in half. Please please chat with your child about taking care of their headphones and make sure they have some to use. We have a few kids that still don't have any and they are having to do an alternative activity. If you have questions if your child needs them, please ask! Thank you!
