Pirandello and his World

Taught by: Dr. Maria Rosaria Vitti-Alexander

Monday evenings, 6-8pm

Pirandello said about himself: “I am therefore the son of Chaos. Nietzsche used to say that the Greeks built white statues against the black abyss, in order to hide it. Those times have ended. I, instead, shake them, to reveal it.”
In this course we will focus on the writer and playwright Luigi Pirandello, Nobel recipient in 1934. Through the reading of chosen short stories and theatrical plays, and the use of the cinematic rendition of some of his prose and theatrical pieces, we will not only learn Pirandello’s philosophical thoughts, but also study complex grammatical structure of the Italian language.
