ABOUT THE JUDY CENTER...
We believe that all children should enter school ready to learn and that families have a vital role in their child’s school success. The Judy Center provides many learning opportunities and fun family activities to promote school readiness.
ST. MARY'S COUNTY LIBRARY UPCOMING ACTIVITIES...
Fall Zoom Storytimes, Sept 14-Dec 9
Tuesdays & Thursdays at 10am, Wednesdays at 2:30
It's storytime, online! Join your children's librarians virtually for fun & learning as we read stories, sing and dance together, and play games. Zoom Storytime is designed with ages 2-6 in mind, but kids of all ages (and their grownup caregivers) are welcome! Outdoor Storytime at Patuxent River Naval Air Museum
Saturday, October 9 (Rain date Oct 16)
Stories, songs, and activities for children with their adult caregivers, outdoors at Patuxent River Naval Air Museum. Please register once per family group. This activity will take place outdoors on the Flight Line, which is a paved area. Participants should bring blankets or chairs for comfort. This event is weather-dependent; in case of bad weather it will be postponed to October 16. The museum entry fee will be waived for all children 10 & under attending the storytime, and offered at a reduced price of $3 to adults. 22156 Three Notch Road Lexington Park, MD 20653. SMCHD STRONG BEGINNINGS PROGRAM INFORMATION...
The Strong Beginnings Program provides intensive case management services for women of reproductive age who are facing issues or have needs related to behavioral health, including mental health and substance use concerns for themselves or a partner.
Services offered include:
- Virtual Home/community visits
- Individualized case management and care coordination
- Assistance in accessing specialty services
- Education on mental health and substance use disorders
- Resources for positive child development
Benefits of the program:
- Personalized, nonjudgmental and caring service delivery
- Free educational materials including maternity journal, while supplies last
- Connection to community services
Eligibility requirements(women of reproductive age, 16 and older):
- Anywhere within the reproductive cycle – Before, during or following pregnancy
- Mental health diagnosis (maternal depression or other)
- Substance use (drugs, alcohol, tobacco and/or vape products)

Collaborative Partnerships: Professional Development Through Coaching

In this training participants will explore the value of developing collaborative partnerships and engaging in Practice Based Coaching (PBC) as a professional development strategy that connects knowledge to practice in the early childhood classroom. It involves building on everyday teaching skills and strategies and connecting them to positive child outcomes and school readiness. Through discussion, video, and practice the PBC process will be defined more clearly and different types of PBC coaching and mentoring will be explored.
