The Start of Something Beautiful 🎨

We have had a wonderful start to our school year! It has been a true joy getting to see both our new and returning students making connections and demonstrating some of THE BEST Bulldog behavior. Our learning community is well on its way to creating a masterpiece out of the days ahead. We are getting ready to make our mark on what promises to be an exceptional school year. Thank you families for all you have done to help us launch and know we appreciate your continued support.

Schoolwide Goals and Renaissance STAR

Initial data from our first STAR administration is exciting. One of our schoolwide goals is that at least 70% of our students will meet the growth goals in reading and math (Fall to Spring). As you can see from a comparison of last school year to this one, our "starting line" this school year is much higher. We are expecting big gains and continued success!

Clubs - Coming Soon!

We will be sharing details about clubs and the sign-up process very soon. A separate communication will be sent out that contains details about offerings and the Sign-Up Genius link.

SHIELD Testing Continues/COVID Procedures

SHIELD testing at Churchill continues this school year and will be held on TUESDAYs moving forward.

  • You must complete an opt-out form for your child If you choose to not have them tested each week.
  • Classroom letters/notifications are no longer sent to families for each positive case. Please view Churchill's COVID information at our school district dashboard which is broken down by grade level and classroom.
  • If a student misses school due to COVID diagnosis and requirement of isolation, our team will make sure work is collected and provided to the student once they are able to return.
  • If returning after Day 5 of quarantine, students must wear a mask at all times through Day 10 and will be physically distanced at snack/lunch times when mask must be removed.

Volunteer Opportunity

If you are interested in helping our school out during lunch time, let us know! We are in need of volunteers to help with set-up, clean-up, and tear-down between 10:50-12:40. Your assistance will help us minimize disruption to PE time as well as provide an additional layer of helping hands to efficiently complete these tasks. If interested in wiping tables, sweeping floors, and set-up and tear-down activities, you may contact the front office and Ms. Barb Hogan, to let us know your intent to volunteer. All volunteers must provide a valid ID which is processed through our system.

Recess and Reflection Room

At Churchill, we value and understand the importance of recess in our students' lives. It plays such an essential role in their continued growth and development. All of our students have a 30 minutes recess in their school day - this is separate and in addition to their PE class every day. Research is clear that this physical activity and the opportunity to socialize is essential to our students' overall success.

Our team has prepared and organized recess for the best possible environment and experience. Our goal is that all students feel safe, make positive connections, and have the opportunity to practice those critical social emotional skills like cooperation and problem-solving. Students have been doing an awesome job this school year engaging in and learning about the expectations at each of our 5 stations by classroom. Each station has a main activity and also alternate activities from which to choose. As the year progresses, students will have more and more opportunity to mix and mingle and make new connections during this time.

Reflection Room

Reflection Room is an intervention that takes place during recess. The intervention provides students a quiet space to reflect or restore a situation while engaging with staff in a individualized lesson on Ripple Effects. The lesson will addresses a specific and relevant social emotional or behavior concern.

Our teachers will contact a family and recommend the reflection room if a minor classroom referral has been issued to the student. Before being issued a minor classroom referral, a teacher or staff member will have attempted many strategies and both positive and negative consequences to help redirect and get a student back on track. If the family would prefer the student engage in their reflection activities after school, that can be arranged.

Recess Equipment

We have been so excited about our brand new recess equipment awarded through out recent Rotary grant! We are building-up our inventory and are looking for donations of the following new or gently used items to be used during recess:

  • rubber balls
  • soccer balls
  • basketballs
  • chalk
  • jump ropes
  • decks of cards
  • board games

If you have any of these items and would like to donate, please deliver to the main office.

We are thrilled that so many families were able to join us for Open House yesterday night. If you were not able to join the event, please click here for videos and presentation slides.
