DR. SEUSS WEEK
5th Grade Next Year at Whiteman Elementary
Dear Parents and Community:
I am writing to provide an update and decision regarding the location of Fifth Grade classes for the 2019-2020 school year, beginning Summer School 2019.
Several years ago, the district moved Fifth Grade classes from the elementary buildings to the middle school building. Over the last few years, the district considered the impacts of that decision and assessed options for moving Fifth Grade classes back to the elementary buildings.
In December 2018, the district surveyed parents, teachers, and the community requesting opinions and preferences regarding the location of fifth grade classes. Results of that survey indicate 81% of respondents prefer moving Fifth Grade back to the elementary buildings. A variety of reasons were provided in support of this opinion.
At the February Regular Meeting of the Board of Education, the Board approved the recommendation to relocate Fifth Grade classes back to elementary buildings beginning SUMMER SCHOOL 2019.
I want to send a sincere thank you to those parents, teachers, and community members who took time to complete the recent survey and provide feedback to help further inform this decision.
Should you have any additional questions, comments, or feedback, please feel free to email me at jwheeler@knr8.net.
Knob Noster Public Schools – Our Mission Is Student Success!
postponed to April 12th
Hello Whiteman Elementary Family,
After much consideration, we as a PTO board, have decided to postpone our Bingo/Chili night.
We want this event to be a success and a huge part of that is being able to have our WE families attend. Due to an overwhelming amount of activity on the base/local area, we feel that moving this event to another date will give others a better chance to come. Please understand that this decision was not taken lightly and we made sure to consider all factors.
For those of you who have prepaid, we are happy to refund your money or we can hold on to it and count on seeing you on April 12th! Please contact us via email or FB messenger for your refund or if you have any questions or concerns.
A new flyer will be posted soon with the new date as a reminder. A prepaid form will be sent out 2 weeks prior to the event for those of you who have not prepaid and would like to attend.
Thank you! WE PTO
Volunteer Opportunities
Hello Whiteman Community,
Family Bingo Night is almost here, signup today if you would like to volunteer during any part of the event. We are looking for 15-20 volunteers between 4pm-8:30pm Friday, March 8th. Without the support of our community these events wouldn't be such a big success. Dinner will be served to all volunteers, and an EPR letter will be provided if needed. If you have any questions please feel free to email us at whitemanpantherspto@gmail.com
Thank you for supporting your Whiteman Panthers PTO!
UNITED THROUGH READING
As you may know, the National Education Association’s Read Across America campaign is an annual reading motivation and awareness program to encourage every child to celebrate reading on Dr. Seuss’ Birthday―March 2.
Whiteman Elementary students are reading Cat in the Hat, Hop on Pop, and other Dr. Seuss classics. With United Through Reading, service members can participate too!
We received a shipment of new books, including some Dr. Seuss favorites.
March is Read Across America month with United Through Reading. Take 10 minutes to stop by Whiteman Elementary and visit the United Through Reading library and record a Dr. Seuss book for your child(ren) in your life―give them a Dr. Seuss bedtime story that will last a lifetime! You get to keep the book and take home a recording for your child(ren).

PURPLE UP- April
COUNSELOR CORNER
April is Month of the Military Child and we will be having a week to celebrate our students. On April 18th, we will be having an assembly and parade to recognize our Military Children (more details will come out closer to time). I am working on creating a slide show for the assembly and I need pictures of you and your child. These pictures can be in uniform with your child, but not necessary. The purpose of this slide show is to show that our students come from all areas of the world! Please email pictures to Mr. Leonard, aleonard@knobnoster.k12.mo.us, or drop off at the office by March 16th. Thank you for your help!

The top 3 classroom in our school with the most minutes read will be awarded a popcorn party which will include a bag of popcorn and a juice box.
The top 3 classroom in our school with the most money raised will be rewarded a popcorn party which will include a bag of popcorn and a juice box.
The top 2 faculty with the most minutes read in our school will be awarded 2 AMC movie tickets with a restaurant gift card.
