Principal's Message
Happy December Korte Families! This month begins our focus on the word Compassion. Helping our Coyotes to understand the meaning of the word and put it into action will be our focus. For example, cotton or sandpaper… cotton words are words that express kindness, empathy, consideration, whereas sandpaper words are words much like sandpaper - rough, scratchy, perhaps even hurtful. Join with me at home by giving children the opportunity to practice showing kindness by helping others, sharing without being asked; or empathy, by teaching them about understanding the feelings of others. Understanding the challenges of others and learning to do something about it is a valuable life lesson. The holidays can be a challenging time for so many. We are here to do all we can to support our children, your children, and our families. Please be sure to let us know how we can best serve you. Wishing you and yours a happy and safe December. No act of kindness, no matter how small, is ever wasted. Aesop.

P.E.
Hello! Everyone has been working hard in PE. The 4th & 5th grade are finishing up pre-fitness testing. The 5th grade will be taking a district PE assessment this month. Students will be working on throwing(overhand/underhand), rolling, striking, and sliding objects with correct body position/mechanics. The students are excited for our tradition game "The Grinch" before winter break. A big focus this year is practicing good "Sportsmanship" in PE daily. A friendly reminder to please make sure your child wears tennis shoes on their scheduled PE day. This is a district expectation so students are safe while being active in PE.
Library/Media
Greetings from the Korte Library! This month in the library all grades K-5 will be reading, learning, and discussing the Fantasy and Fairytale genre of literature. A few of the fantasy and fairytale books we will be reading: “Beware of the Storybook Wolves”, “The Magical Yet”, “Magic Secrets”, Abracadabra!: Magic with Mouse and Mole”, and Pearl: The Magical Unicorn”. Grades 3-5 will be creating books using Book Creator.
We will also be spending some time coding during the week of Dec.13th. Students will be given a few links to explore coding and introducing students to computer science. Computational thinking helps nurture problem-solving skills, logic, and creativity. Technology is transforming every industry on the planet. Students should learn how to create technology, not just use it.
