Principal's Message
Dear Parents/Carers,
The children are looking forward to their ‘Move Up’ day on Tuesday. Letters will come home on Monday to inform you of which class your child has been placed in for 2019. It is important to note that the compilation of classes takes a very long time and goes through a rigorous process where all staff members in the school have input. Balance of standards, behaviour and social interactions are considered in the process. The children are asked to choose four friends or people they work well with and are guaranteed at least one in their placement. Once children are placed they will not be moved.
Our specialist program in 2019 will continue as it has in 2018 – we will offer Physical Education, Performing Arts, Chinese (LOTE) and Visual Arts.
We are lucky at Parkhill to work closely with Judd Murray and the Just Get Active initiative, which keeps children active, regulated and mindful as they enter their learning zone. Just Get Active will be known as Cognercise going into 2019. The Cognercise Foundation has been established to source, distribute and support important health and wellbeing. We are lucky that BDC Dance have sponsored Parkhill Primary in 2019 to be able to access the programs for all students across the school. Thank you for the sponsorship!
CAFÉ READING:
Use punctuation to enhance phrasing and prosody (end marks, commas, etc)
What does ‘Use Punctuation to Enhance Phrasing and Prosody (End Marks, Commas, etc.)’ mean? This is when a reader will cluster words together by using knowledge of the spoken patterns and using punctuation enhances understanding of what is read.
How do we support a reader in using this strategy? We can ask questions such as: "What punctuation helped you read that phrase of words?”, or encourage the reader to "Try saying those words together quickly, not word by word.”
KIDSMATTER:
Spending time with your children is such a rewarding and valuable pastime. By sharing activities with your children you can support their emotional, physical, spiritual, mental and social wellbeing, as well as developing responsibility for themselves and care for others around them.
Here are some suggested ways that you could spend time together this weekend…
FINAL WORDS:
Fun, Food & Carols is this evening – do come along and have some fun with us. The weather is going to be fabulous and we will be officially opening our new buildings. This event is held outside and will showcase the outside areas of the new spaces!
It is coming to the end of the year and reports will be coming home soon. If you would like to arrange a time to meet with your classroom teacher, please do contact them directly at any time to set up a time to chat. You are always welcome and encouraged to arrange a meeting to discuss your child’s progress at any time throughout the school year. This can be done either directly with the teacher or through the school office.
The fences have been taken down from around the gardens. I would like to thank Roger for the work he endlessly carries out at school to ensure the grounds are well cared for. He spends many hours tending the gardens and planting and caring for the plants we have at Parkhill. Taking down the fences means that the plants are in danger of being trodden – please do support us in encouraging the children to show respect for their environment and not destroying our beautiful gardens. A conversation at home about using paths rather than stepping on the flower beds would help.
Let’s work together to keep our school clean and well presented!
Have a lovely weekend.

OSHClub News
Wow! How are we so close to the end of the year?! We’ve had a fabulous time this term, with gorgeous weather (most of the time!) allowing students to spend a lot of time outside playing. The oval, soccer pitch, and new play area have been very popular, and we’ve enjoyed exploring and discovering the best ways to use these areas within our program.
Children have loved continuing to make the program their own by suggesting themes, program ideas, and food options. They've also helped with our resource orders, allowing children to suggest and vote on new equipment that we need for the program.
It’s been great to see so many children bringing their own hats from home to OSHClub with excitement as they earn stickers towards a prize. If your child attends OSHClub we ask that they bring a named hat from home with them that can stay in their bag for after school care. This allows all children to be able to play where they wish.
Looking forward, OSHClub will be running an extended session on Friday 21 December. School finishes at 1:30pm and we will be running 1:30-6pm on that day. If you wish for your child/ren to attend this session, please make sure you book in. Although before and after school care finishes Friday 21st December for a break over Christmas and New Year, we're back for vacation care in January. This runs from the 7th - 25th January (excluding weekends). We're looking forward to exciting incursions, excursions, and fun activities!
If you want to know more about OSHClub, please feel free to drop by the hall before or after school, or give us a call on 0422 008 915.
Have a lovely week!
