MPES Connection
April 3, 2020
A Message from Dr. McDade
We have been thinking a lot about our elementary students and the impact that the statewide closure of schools will continue to have on them. None of us could have imagined this scenario for the last months of the school year.
In developing the MPCS Continuous Learning Plan, strong consideration was given to giving home access to devices for students in K-5. As much as we would love to distribute devices to our youngest Cougars, a full-scale deployment is not feasible nor safe under the current conditions and restrictions.
Earlier this week, a survey was sent to you. If you haven’t completed it or have not received it, take time to complete the survey here. This information will be valuable as we find the best way to support our elementary students. We are examining options for getting technology access into the hands of students who do not have it, but be assured that a lack of access to technology will not impact the progress of our students.
All students on track to be promoted to the next grade as of March 13, 2020, will be promoted to the next grade. School staff will continue to work closely with parents and students who were identified for possible retention prior to March 13, 2020 to assist the student in meeting promotion standards.
The most important message we want to send to you is this: all of us at MPCS want you and your child to feel supported. Please reach out to your child’s teacher and school counselors for assistance or with any questions. We are all in this together.

MPCS Food Distribution Continues
MPCS is providing prepackaged grab-and-go meals at no charge to all children, age 18 and under. Meal pickup will take place on Tuesdays at the main entrance of Manassas Park High School between 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m.
In order to minimize the number of times parents must bring their children to the distribution site, a weekly set of prepackaged breakfasts and lunches will be provided on Tuesdays. All meals will be the same for all children regardless of race, color, national origin, sex, age or disability, and there will be no discrimination in the course of the meal service.
For the safety of everyone, it is important to follow the guidance supplied by our volunteers to maintain safe social distancing practices and vehicle passage.
A Message from Our MPCS School Counselors
The biggest community event in Manassas Park turns into a virtual 5k and 1-mile run!
Hundreds of families each year have joined Manassas Park City Schools for its annual Cougar Literacy Run and we want to ensure that despite state-wide closures, our tradition of promoting literacy and wellness for our students continues!
From May 2 - May 10, participants will have the opportunity to choose a day, time, and course for their 5k or 1 mile run. This Spirit Week will encourage students to participate in a reading challenge that includes photos of our awesome readers.
Proceeds from the event will continue to go toward purchasing print and digital resources to enhance literacy and integrate mathematics, science, and social studies learning on our campuses.
