Tisch's Tidbits
Well, last week was a warm one! We all wished if we were toasty that we were near a pool. I have to say we were so thankful for the cold front that came through. We did enjoy feeling the breeze with having opened windows.I was so proud of all the kiddos and how hard they worked.
Needed
We are in need of tape for our interactive notebooks. The original idea was to glue, but it can be messy and eats up a great deal of our time. If you could please send in the individual disposable tape dispensers, that would be perfect! Each child will need one or two. We are always in need of tape refills as well. Thank you!
Curriculum Night
It was wonderful seeing so many of you last night. I will be sending home the Power Point for those who had conflicting events. There is also a purple paper with early dismissal information that will be coming home. Please complete this and return on Monday. I am working to upload it to Canvas. There are also two sheets of paper. One is for free Hot Box breadsticks! The other is a QR code that you can scan on your phone for all of the PTO documents. They have gone digital this year!
Multiplication Facts
These lovely facts are so important for the kids to know by heart. It seems as though everything we do in math involves this skill. I will be assessing what the kids already know and the facts they still need to memorize. The sooner they are all memorized, the easier math will be. Rather than doing timed tests, your child will have five facts to practice. When they know them, I will spend a few minutes ensuring they know them at school and five more will then be assigned. It would be good start working on these at home. Once facts are assigned, this will be part of your child's homework until they are learned. Then on to division! Of course, points will be awarded to those who master all of their facts!
REMIND 101
Another way for me to keep in touch is the use of remind 101. Many times I will just send a text reminder instead of an email. To sign up for 2016-17 Parents notifications, please visit
If you already have the Remind101 app, you can search for my class or use @cdc79.
Home Folders
Thank you for viewing your child's folder each week and signing in the Saturday column!
PLANNERS AND HOMEWORK
We will begin using our planners each day except for Fridays unless there is something important to communicate for the weekend. I will check each morning Tuesday-Friday for a parent signature and will look for a signature on the behavior/work habit calendar on Mondays. The kiddos are working hard to earn their Fun Friday Activity which all of fourth grade is doing. If there are more than 3 letters in the folder, this may not be earned. We are cohesively trying to prepare the kids for middle school.
MONEY
Please send in any money in an envelope with your child's name on it. If loose money comes in, it tends to fall on the floor or get mixed up with the other 24 envelopes of money, and then I'm not sure who it belong to. The envelopes help me know exactly who brought in what and ensures that it is specific to your child. Thanks so much for your help!
NFG/T
You may see this on your child's work! NFG means Not For Grade and the T means we did it Together.
Keys
You may have heard about the keys the children are earning. At the end of each day, children in the class are recognized for a variety of things. It could be using lifeskills, going above and beyond, academic success, etc. The children can also nominate someone in the class by putting a note on the "Do Something Awesome Today" board. At the end of the month, children who earned keys will trade in the paper key for a real key! There are several Master locks just waiting to be opened! If you are one of the lucky ones whose key you selected opens a lock, you earn the reward of the month! This month, there will be 12 lucky winners! Unlock the Magic!
Here's to a great week ahead and for fabulous air conditioning!!!! Thank you for all that you do! You are appreciated.

Social Thinking Words for the Week
Union Students are Social Thinkers:
Unexpected Behavior: These are things we do and say that give people uncomfortable thoughts about us and makes them feel icky, mad, sad, or bad. Doing what is unexpected is different based on where we are and who we are with.
Expected Behavior: These are things we do and say that give people good thoughts about us and make them feel good too. Doing what is expected is different based on where we are and who we are with.
Example: "Bumping into our friends as we walk in line is unexpected behavior and makes our friends angry or annoyed. The expected behavior right now is walking in line using Whole Body Listening."
