Report Cards
Enclosed in today's folder you'll find your child's report card. Please sign the envelope and send the (empty) envelope back on Monday. Please make sure to note your child's progress toward math facts fluency as listed on the front of this envelope. We have reached the point in the year where your child needs to have mastered those multiplication and division problems. If master has not yet happened for your child, them please remind him/her to practice nightly. As I always say, "As good as we are, we can always get better." I have reminded that I don't give students grades; they earn them.
Safety Practice Drills
Please be certain to read Mrs. Sourbeer's letter that is enclosed in today's Friday folder. During Tuesday's code red emergency lock down, I will be doing my best to keep your children's fears at bay and stressing to them that this is merely a practice drill for what we hopefully would never have to do as a reaction to threats.
I-READ Test
I just want to take the time compliment your child. I had goosebumps as I watched those students who tested with me during the IREAD-3 test this week. They were so very focused and intentional. Each and every one of them tried their very best, I'm sure! Again, thank you for your support in seeing that they were "on their game" during these days. It has meant so much.
Library Schedule Changes
Due to Beach Day on Friday, Mrs. Grissom has allowed us to reschedule our libary visit for Thursday, March 22. Additionally, she is going to be out of the library two Fridays in April. As a result, we will be visiting the library on Thursday, April 5th and on Thursday, April 12th.
Basket Bash
I want to thank those of you who've already turned in your Basket Bash donation. We cannot do this without help from our parents. Money for our class basket is due Friday, March 23.
Iditarod Fun
Data entry and mathematical problem solving has been alive and well in our classroom this week as students followed the mushers and their sled dog teams across the vast wilderness of Alaska. I'm sure you've been told that Aiden's musher, Joar Leithseth Ulsom, along with his team of dogs are the 2018 Iditarod champions.
To take the edge off of the standardized testing, students participated in another S.T.E.M. (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) challenge. This time, they designed and built the official finish line for Nome, AK. Did (s)he tell you that the original finish line was red Kool-Aide poured as a line in the snow? Crazy! Be sure to check out the pictures of students involved in this challenge.
Be looking for your child's Iditarod binder to make its way home following his/her musher's finish. This is his/hers to keep. Hopefully, it will serve as fond, fond memories for them. I've heard a good many of them say, "I'm going to follow the race next year, too!" I cannot tell you how happy it makes me to see them so excited about learning.
Penny Wars!
Come one, come all with pockets full of pennies (or any loose change) for our playground equipment penny war! Next week, March 19-23, students can deposit coins to vote for the new piece of playground equipment. Penny war containers will also be out for families to vote during our Literacy Night on Wednesday, March 21.
Next Week's Share Topic
Share about your favorite sport. Do you play it or just watch it? You might want to bring in some of the equipment you use to play that sport. Pictures, trophies, etc. are fine, too.
Beach Day
Remember, the annual LES Beach Day is on March 23, the last day before spring break. Students are invited to wear school appropriate beach type clothing (hats, sunglasses, and shorts) for our celebration. Beach clothes must still follow school rules. On this day students will enjoy "beach" volleyball, a limbo contest, Karaoke singing, snow cones, and other beach-related activities.
Texas Roadhouse Fundraiser
On April 10, the LES PTO will hold a fundraiser at Texas Roadhouse from 4-8 p.m. Texas Roadhouse will donate 10% of the total food purchases from LES PTO family and friends. The enclosed flyer must be presented in order for the PTO to receive the 10% donation, and the money earned will be used towards the purchase of new playground equipment.
Box Tops Totals
Amazingly, our recent Box Top submission has resulted in a check for $490.00! This is an easy way for our school to receive much-needed funds. We appreciate Mrs. McCashland's hard work and efforts toward this project. Thanks to you--and your family and friends--for clipping those box tops. Keep 'em coming!!!!!
