DSIL Challenge #1
360 Mirror | Start with Self
About Challenge
DSIL incorporates the "360" mirror to offer a simple pathway for others within our garden and beyond to give perspectives about how they experience you. Time to find our blind spots! If we follow the equity-based design mindset that all feedback is good feedback, gaining these multiple perspectives can help us have the data we need to plan a holistic path of growth.
Over the years, we have pulled over wisdom about a few simple questions that can unblock your blind spots. It should only take about 3-5 minutes to respond. It helps to give potential respondents a deadline of 2-3 days ("by the end of the week", e.g.).
Minimum specs for getting feedback from 6+ people (do as many more as you would like!):
- Yourself, where we always start. Do one for you!
- 1 people you've had a direct conflict with in the last year
- 1 person within our garden
- 1 person you feel knows you the most
- 1 person you work with; and
- 1 person from your past you haven't spoken with for at least one year
DSIL Mirror Questions:
- What is something you think/sense/feel about me that I need to compost (let die) that would help me blossom into my next evolution?
- What do you think/sense/feel that I cannot see in myself that brings life to others?
- How would you suggest I amplify that to help me move beyond surviving into thriving?
- If you were 10x bolder, what else would you share with me to guide my growth? Bring it!
Alumni have found that processing the responses all at once creates less stress and over analysis. Try to look from their lens, identifying themes and areas of growth, and pay attention to your reactivity vs. response. Allow some time to pass and when you're ready, sit down with the reflection questions below to keep making sense of what you are learning about yourself.
360 Mirror Reflection Q's: Please submit this with no more than 500 words, bullet points or video- it will not be shared and address it as a letter to yourself. This is for you.
- What did you learn, re-learn or unlearn about yourself?
- What are your strengths? Where were those born? What are some small ways to help those blossom more?
- What are your personal edges? What’s holding you back from growing/composting in these areas?
- What has been illuminated by looking at your self-assessment alongside the assessment of others?
- What else?
