QUEST . . .
We are very excited to begin our QUEST adventure at Titus this year! QUEST, the new program for all students in Grades 1-6, stands for “Questioning and Understanding in Engineering, Science, and Technology”. The goal of our program is to provide students with real-world problem solving opportunities. These challenges will help your child develop skills needed for 21st century jobs: Collaboration, Creativity, Communication and Critical Thinking. Project-based learning activities will challenge children to think “outside the box” and learn to discover ways around problems through testing, analysis, and redesign.
In the QUEST classroom, children will be working on many exciting projects this year, from software programming to building catapults. In the classroom, there will also be a “Tinker Table” where students can take things apart and see how they work. Your children will be using a lot of recyclable materials on the projects. If you are interested in donating any of the items (see below), we will be collecting them all year. Please don’t limit donations to items in the table – we would love to have a variety of materials to inspire your children. Please forward all donations to the classroom teacher with the materials marked "QUEST."
Thank you for your support!

Volunteers & Clearances for 2015 - 2016
There have been significant changes to regulations regarding volunteers within school's across the state. While the official "go-live" date is now July 2016, I wanted to reiterate some of the information that was shared in a recent communication from Central Office to all families.
Titus will be encouraging all potential volunteers to complete their paperwork sooner as opposed to later. This will ensure come, July 2016, we are in line with district and state expectations.
Who Needs Clearances: An individual who is responsible for the child’s welfare or has direct volunteer contact with children.
Direct Volunteer Contact – The care, supervision, guidance, or control of children and routine interaction with children
Routine Interaction – Regular and repeated contact that is integral to a person’s employment or volunteer responsibilities.
Person Responsible for Child’s Welfare – Person who provides permanent or temporary care, supervision, mental health diagnosis or treatment, training or control of a child in lieu of parental care, supervision and control. Includes any such person who has direct or regular contact with a child through any program, activity, or service sponsored by a school, for-profit organization or religious or other not for profit organization.
Additional information and steps on how to complete your clearances can be found on our district web site by clicking here.

Box Tops for Education . . .
We will be collecting Box Tops again this year. Please send in any Box Tops you have collected over the summer and keep collecting them throughout the year. Every Box Top you send in is worth $ .10 to Titus.
Last year we raised over $4,000 for Titus’ Home and School Association just by sending in Box Tops! To find out what products have Box Tops on them, click here. We will also be continuing the fun tradition of the Rita’s Water Ice contest. The classroom that sends in the most Box Tops for the school year will win a Rita’s Water Ice party in June.
