Dear Gentry Families,
No School on Wednesday, March 10
7th/8th Track and Field Team- FINAL SIGN UP DATE IS MARCH 10!
Looking for a deal on running shoes/clothes? Nate at TryAthletics will be offering a 20% discount on running shoes, running clothes & spikes from February 22-March 7th if you mention that you're a Gentry Middle School athlete and will be participating in track & field!
Spirit Week
Gentry will be participating in a school wide spirit week March 15th-19th! We encourage EVERYONE to participate, even if your student is on Zoom. And, if they participate they and their class might be surprised with a small prize!
Bike Riders
If your student rides their bike to and from Gentry during the week, please be sure to encourage them to lock it to the bike rack that is located by our parking lot while they attend school or after school activities. We have many students who we observe that simply roll their bike onto the rack and then walk away without securing it for the day. Better to be safe than sorry!
Mathcounts
Keaton Hall got third place out of 44 in the open regional Mathcounts competition to qualify for the Invitational regional competition. Only the top 10 got to compete in the invitational. Keaton got second place out of those ten competitors to qualify for the State competition to be held on March 25. From there, he has the opportunity to qualify for nationals, which would mean a trip to Washington DC. Great job Keaton!
Guidance News
Guardians of Secondary Students (current grades 6 – 11)
Beginning Monday, March 8th, you can view course requests for the 2021-2022 school year in the Family Portal in documents. This information will be sent via email from Mr. Josh Johnson.
MAP Testing
Although we are a month away, we wanted to give you the dates for our spring MAP testing. MAP Assessment for 6/7th grade will begin April 8-April 16th. 6th and 7th grade students will test in English and Mathematics. MAP Assessment for 8th grade will begin April 19-April 27th. 8th grade students will test in English, Math and Science. Algebra students will take the EOC.
Those students enrolled in the virtual learning mode will test May 3-May 21st. Additional information will be coming as testing window gets closer.
Media Center Minute
We have seen MOST students in the last 2 weeks and have individually checked each iPad to ensure that it is working, replacing parts as necessary. Please encourage your student to leave their iPad in the case so it does not get broken and have the keyboard part attached as well. Most iPad breakage happens when students are taking them out of the case, and we would like to prevent breakage if possible. If your student has a problem with their keyboard or charging, please have them contact the media center so we can fix the problem for them.
Student Photos Are Here
If your virtual learner had a school photo taken earlier this year, we just recently received their accompanying student photo ID's. With our school year looking a bit different this year, if your child is still interested in having this school ID (even though they are in a virtual learning mode), then you can feel free to pick this up in the main office at your convenience. Feel free to contact the school (214-3240) with any questions that you may have and/or to verify pick up instructions. We apologize for this inconvenience.
