Matanzas Elementary School
distance learning
Hello Matanzas Families,
A big, virtual HELLO to you and your children; and I hope that everyone is staying healthy and is enjoying a bit of summer fun during these challenging times. We all wish we were planning for our usual return to campus where we would be excitedly welcoming students into classrooms on the first day. Since this is not yet possible, I wanted to let you know that there is a whole lot of planning happening to make distance learning the best it can possibly be for families.
Your child's education will look quite a bit different than it did in spring. In spring teachers, staff, administrators were taken by surprise and we all just did our best. And with that, the state gave us minimal expectations for attendance and grading. Now we have clear Distance Learning Standards for Schools from the state -- please see the infographic below.
To further support understanding these standards and distance learning expectations for our families and students, our superintendent, Dr. Tracy Smith, will be hosting a parent forum to explain; and answer questions on Wednesday, July 29th; 6:00-7:00. The following evening will be in Spanish, Thursday, July 30th; 6:00-7:00.
See parent communication below with link and question form.
Additionally, Mrs. Kearney and I will host a Spring Creek Matanzas Parent Forum specific for our community on Thursday, August 6th; 6:00-7:00. Our forum will be closed-caption; and we are working on it being translated to Spanish.
Please stay well and know that we are looking forward to working together with our amazing Matanzas families to make distance learning a positive experience for all.
Dolphin Strong!
Warmly,
Harmony Harvell, Principal
