WELCOME FROM ROBERT FOREMAN, DIRECTOR OF ATHLETICS
It has been a challenging 5 months for the Mustang Athletic Department, our coaches and our student athletes. As a department, we couldn't be more proud of the effort, resourcefulness and resilience of our coaches and athletes. In their backyards, garages, local parks and through online workouts our coaches and athletes have stayed in touch and continued to work hard and remain ready when the time came to come back together...socially distanced of course.
Softball, volleyball and cross country started their seasons this past week and football will have their first scrimmage this Friday. Needless to say, we are excited to see our athletes back on the playing field and doing what they love. We hope that you will find time to make it to a game, match or meet and support our Bronco athletic programs. Schedules and information about all of the fall sports can be found in this newsletter. Enjoy and Go Broncos!!!

BOYS CROSS COUNTRY PREVIEW
GIRLS CROSS COUNTRY PREVIEW
The girls cross country team has done a great job getting together and running on their own throughout the summer. They are determined to have a great season this year. With 6 out of the top 7 returning from last year's 4th place team at state the coaches and team are optimistic. The coaching staff is looking for positive attitudes from their senior leadership to help the new freshman make the transition to high school a smooth one and to make it the season they all hope for.
Coach Osborne had this to say, "This year our team goal is to finish on the Podium (top 3) at the State meet. We were 4th last year and I really believe we are a stronger team this year. As long as we put in the work now while keeping positive attitudes I know we can get there. This is also a very special year because qualifying for state this year will be the 25th straight year the girls team has qualified for the State meet."

BRONCO FOOTBALL REVIEW
Season opens soon and the Broncos are ready. After spending the last year putting in his system, Coach Blankenship believes they will be able to be more complex on offense, defense and special teams this year. They have a lot of youth but very talented youth and the staff is excited about the potential of this team. "My expectation is that our players learn what success means - doing your very best, regardless of the obstacles in front of you," says coach Blankenship. This is a great group of men and they look forward to having your support throughout the season.

This year's seniors have stepped up as leaders for the JV and Varsity teams and have been helpful, organized encouraging and dependable for the coaches. They work well together and have set high expectation for themselves and their teammates. The JV team is comprised of all freshman this year and the coaching staff is excited for them to grow. The expectations for all of the dancers is the same though; work hard and be a leader even when no one is watching.

FAST PITCH SOFTBALL PREVIEW
This summer the team continued doing Crossfit workouts 3-4 days a week. It was a different experience from their traditional strength and conditioning workouts but the staff hopes it will better prepare them for the grind of softball season. The seniors have a drive and hunger about them. They were able to experience the 2017 State Championship as players, but have not returned to the State Tournament since. They approach every practice and every workout with the goal of winning a district and state championship in mind.
Coach Darity had this to say about the leadership on the team, "We have established a leadership council within our team that consists of players of each grade. We are working hard to develop strong leaders that can better serve our team. The team has 7 returning starters from last year’s team with a good mix of veteran players and youth. There are 20 freshmen currently on the team and 48 players in total. There are several freshmen the coaching staff expects to contribute at the varsity level and they expect their veterans to provide great leadership to those younger players and push everyone towards their goal of district and state championship. Coach Darity said, "We expect a big season out of this group. Having not been to the state tournament since 2017, they are very hungry to get back. That goal drives everything we do. Our goals are to win a District and State Championship."

VOLLEYBALL PREVIEW
After finishing the 2019 volleyball season with a 29-5 record and a trip to the state tournament, this year's team knows what it will take to get back to the top.
The Lady Bronco Volleyball Team spent their time during quarantine utilizing Zoom to do workouts, have meetings, and share daily inspirational quotes for encouragement. They began their official practices July 15th and have been working hard to prepare for the 2020 season. Having 4 key players graduate, 2 who moved on to play college volleyball, this year's team has a few holes to fill but the coaches have high expectations set for the program once again. This year's seniors were key contributors last season and bring a lot of experience with them. This will be their fourth season at the varsity level. They, like the coaches, continue to set the expectations high and work in a positive way to motivate their teammates to reach those expectations. They Lady Broncos return 8 varsity players, have 2 talented move ins to the district and several JV players that have moved up to varsity.
Coach Hajek and Coach Miles have this to say about the 2020 season: "This year we will face many different challenges. The uncertainty of the times forces us to make every day count in a new way. We have been practicing in masks which takes a completely different level of fitness. However, our players remain resilient and have great chemistry on and off the court. We will overcome these new challenges together. We plan to work hard, play together, and finish our season at the OSSAA 6A State Volleyball tournament in October."
