BFMS Weekly Update

Administrative News
We were finally able to wrap up our MAPs testing for the winter session this week! Can you believe this is only our second full week of school since the first week of December?
Progress reports are going home today with students along with the Youth Risk Behavior Survey Parental notice.
Crazy that earlier this week we passed the halfway point of the school year. Looking forward to the back 9 of the year and what it has in store for all of our students!

6th Grade News
The 6th grade class continues to make great gains in weekly behavior challenges. This week, 85% of the class met the challenge of completing assignments, putting good effort into their work, and being cooperative/not disruptive to the classroom environment.
Map Testing: 92% of the 6th grade students put good effort into their tests, followed directions, worked cooperatively, and respected the testing environment.
In 6th grade ELA, we have been trying to get outside frequently to incorporate Nature Based Learning. This month, we will be incorporating the use of The Vermont Almanac (thanks for the donation Mr. Ferenc) into our program. The Vermont Almanac is a compilation of stories, poems, advice, history, and science-based text. Using the almanac in read-alouds, students have the opportunity to learn a little about the great state of Vermont and reflect on the information through probative discussions and reflective writing.

Middle School Student Responsibility:
Just a few reminders about sports. This is found on our website: Student Athletic Handbook
Middle School Student Responsibility:
➢ All paperwork must be completed and handed in before you can practice
➢ Your academics are very important, make sure you seek help as needed.
➢ Be on time. Be dressed and ready when the practice or game begins.
➢ Students are not permitted to wait at school for a late practice/game. Parents may make
arrangements for their child to be with a teacher after school or to participate in the AIM
Afterschool Program. Students are not allowed in the building unsupervised.
➢ Students must be on time and attend practice. Consequences for being late or not
attending are as follows:
1st offense: verbal warning
2nd offense:Will not participate in the 1st quarter of the next game
3rd offense: Will not participate in the 1st and 2nd quarter of the next game
4th offense: Will not participate in the next scheduled game
5th offense: Will no longer serve as part of the team
➢ Let the coach know if you are going to be late or will miss a game or practice so they can
plan accordingly.
➢ Any student who is medically excused or sits out (due to illness) from P.E. or an
academic class may not participate in practices or games.
In order to participate in any co-curricular activity a student must attend school on
the day of the activity, for at least 3.5 hours.
Five unexcused absences from practice or a game will result in your dismissal
from the team.
Athletes must have 7 practices before participating in a game.
➢ In order to ride with another adult you must have signed permission (forms can be gotten
from the BFMS website or the AD) EACH TIME this is to happen. Emailing or texting
this to the coach is also acceptable.
➢ Make sure you listen to the announcements at the end of the day as practices and games
can change quickly due to inclement weather or other factors. If a change in the schedule
occurs, students will be notified via an announcement, at 1pm, and a robo call
will go out to parents/guardians by 1pm, if possible.
