Legos, Legos, and more Legos!
I'm sure you have heard that we broke out the boxes of Legos this week. Our focus is on building a rubber band car that will travel more than four feet. They have tested designs the past two days... tomorrow, we will talk about aspects of design that can slow or stop the car. It is a fun way to learn about force and motion and problem solving!
In math, we have started multiplication. We will focus this week on multiplying by tens and hundreds... looking for those patterns that make work easier. We will also learn the lattice method of multiplication. I've added some links on Lattice multiplication to the fourth grade homework page. We will look at several ways to do multiplication so that students can be familiar with the various ways and pick the way that works best!
Last week, we finished our unit on fractions, but we will continue to review them weekly. In the science lab,
We had a fun field trip to the Granbury Opera House last Wednesday. We saw the Fort Worth Opera present The Bremen Town Musicians. It is an operetta based on a Russian Fable. The kids were so well behaved and represented our school very well. They enjoyed the show very much and asked thoughtful questions of the actors and musicians at the end.
Our class will be rewarded for their good behavior for the 2nd 6 weeks with an electronics party this Thursday for about an hour in the afternoon! Please remember, any item brought from home will be your student’s responsibility. We will also be playing on our classroom computers, Ipads, and Smartboard! Students may also bring a special drink.
Remember to send in your form for Thanksgiving lunch if you have not already done that.
