NWES WARRIOR WEEKLY
July 1, 2014
Welcome Superintendent Ritz!!!
C.L.A.S.S. Summer Institute
Our group had an amazing experience at C.L.A.S.S. Summer Institute. For those of you who have already had the chance to go, you know how fulfilling and inspiring the experience is. The sessions this year were as good as they have ever been. I am using this new format for our staff newsletter based on a session I attended on technology. The participants this year were Mitch and Gretchen Willaman, Lori Hickman, Jenny Campbell, Kim Conrad, and myself. Be sure to ask them about the experience and see what great things they want to share with you from what they learned.
I attended a great session on technology in the classroom, as well as another session on the new children's books we will want to review. Carl Harvey, Noblesville librarian, was a member of the Caldecott Selection Committee this year and reviewed over 500 children's books in the process. He was a wealth of knowledge and his list of books we want to look at is extensive, but amazing!!
Barbara was inspiring and can really make us reflect on the reason we became an educator. Please take a few minutes to think back to the first teaching job you ever had and how you felt about that first day! She continually reminded us that no one can steal our joy if we do not allow it to happen! Remember, you are in charge of that! She reminded us that it is our job to "change the story" and make it our own.
Don't sit and wait for great things to happen, but be the inspiration to make great things happen!

On our first day back, we will look at the Power Up schedule and make some final decisions regarding everyone's best Power Up time. Be thinking of how that schedule would best work for your grade level.
We will be changing our morning schedules a little bit this year. Monday morning will be for Staff Meetings and Committee Meetings, Tuesdays will be for RTI. Wednesdays will remain with SMART Starts, and Thursdays will be for Team Meetings each week. Fridays will be our day to avoid meetings as much as possible. This will provide specific times each week for the teams to meet and plan units, discuss data, etc. We will talk more specifically about this on Monday, August 11.
