Students Involved in Technology Conference
We are hoping to get a group from each school to attend the SIT (Students Involved in Technology) conference on February 22 as presenters. We would appreciate your help generating some excitement and buzz. Can you please talk about this at an upcoming meeting and share this info via your newsletter or email:
We are looking for teachers who would be willing to bring a group of 2-4 students to present on a topic related to STEAM at the conference. Presentations are 25 minutes in length. The teacher’s role is to help the students develop a presentation, but the students are the main presenters.
Details about the conference:
· This conference is intended to be student-led/driven. If you are interested, please plan on bringing a group of 2-4 (no more than 4 w/1 teacher leader) interested students to the conference to do a presentation (25 minutes in length). Interested teachers’ role is to make sure their students are well-prepared for the presentation and to help with supervising students, assisting them in choosing sessions, etc.
· Subject matter is anything STEM-related. Interactive sessions are great where our kids demonstrate or teach something they have learned and the other students in attendance can try it out.
What the day looks like:
· Teachers will be paid extra duty pay from 7:45 (departure)-2:45 (arrival), plus 3 hours of preparation/practice time with students for a total of 10 hours. Transportation will be provided by the district from Indian Trail for all student presenters and their cooperating teacher.
· District will pay for student presenters and cooperating teacher’s registration fees.
· Upon arrival there is a brief check-in and then staff/students head to the opening session. Following the opening session, students/staff can attend other sessions when they are not presenting.
· Lunch and a snack are provided at the conference.
· For more info: http://www.sitconference.org/
Any questions, please reach out to Kim Lohse! Thanks!
MAP Testing
The Fall Benchmarking Period for MAP testing will open on Monday, December 2 and close on Friday, December 13. A few things to note-
- Students in 1st grade take: Growth: Reading K-2 and Growth: Math K-2
- Students in 2-5 grades take: Growth: Reading 2-5 and Growth: Math 2-5
- Students in dual language classes will take the MAPs Spanish assessment.
- Please work with the LDR teacher for your grade level to schedule testing for students with IEP or 504 accommodations.
- The full Proctor manual is lengthy, but does provide step by step instructions for administering MAPs and troubleshooting issues as they occur. The shorter 6 page document reviews some of the same information in a format.
- All students can use the Chromebooks to test. The lockdown browser is found prior to logging into the Chromebook. Students should sign-out and then click on the Apps button at the bottom of the screen. Choose NWEA Secure Testing.
- Chromebook troubleshooting can be found here.
- For new staff or staff who do not remember their passwords- please go to www.nwea.org and choose Login. Click on MAPs Growth and click on the Forgot Password link. If they run into any issue, please have them email me.
5 Essentials Survey
Parent Survey
The parent window for the 5 Essentials Survey opened on October 24 and we are already at 5% participation. When need at least 20% participation to generate a report with feedback. Last year we had 45% participation and I would like to set a goal of at least 50% participation from our families. Please encourage them to participate using the link below. Families do not need an email address but need to know the county and school address. We will also have tables during Parent Teacher Conferences and Movie Night for parents to take the survey. The staff and student windows will open at a later date.http://survey.5-essentials.org/illinois/survey/parent/
Staff Survey
The staff survey will be opening up soon and everyone will be asked to take the survey. We should be able to get 100% participation.
