Coldstream Elementary October 22, 2020
October is closing out
The cool weather and rain has us preparing for fall ending and moving forward. Tomorrow is a professional development day for teachers. They will be joining a variety of virtual as well as face to face groups from around the province. Our Coldstream teachers have been so inspiring this year, not only adapting and learning to technology and all things COVID, they are also working together with inquiry groups around numeracy, literacy, assessment for learning, outdoor education and collaborative physical education planning. We are looking forward to meeting virtually with parents and students to discuss their growth plans for the year.
Pictures are Ready
Students will be bringing home their photo proof cards today. These cards have your child's order code on them. Ordering is done online and then shipped directly to your home. For info on how to order, see this link. If you didn't get your code # for your child, you can email Mrs. Siegmueller for the info numbers. Retakes will be on Friday, November 6th.
Halloween at Coldstream
October 30th will see lots of fun and action at Coldstream. This is an early dismissal day for conferences so students will only be attending until 11:30 that day. Students can come dressed up for the day. We'll do our traditional costume parade outside at the beginning of the day and then Mrs. Dorval and Ms. Elsworth have a special dance for everyone out in the field - fully distanced of course. For school costumes, there should not be any blood, gore, weapons, or racially inappropriate costumes. Also a reminder that during COVID we have guidelines that prevent us from sharing food so classes won't be doing homemade treat sharing this year. We have arranged some prepackaged goodies to have for every student on that day so they'll enjoy a sweet treat together.
Parking lot reminders
Thank you to everyone for your patience with our parking lot drop off and pick up. The system seems to be working well. A reminder to pull ahead when space becomes available. This frees up the lineup behind and makes things run smoother. If you have different people coming to pick up your child, please let them know about the A-L and M-Z lines to make finding your child easier.
Safe Arrival - 250-545-8427
Our Safe Arrival number is available to call to let us know when your child will be absent or late. We are asked to monitor total absentee #s for the health authority so it is helpful for us to know if your child is away sick or for other travels etc.
Body Science at Coldstream
In November, we will be hosting Saleema Noon and her body science team to present to all classes. This will be done in a virtual format and include live question and answer sessions for students and also an evening parent information session. This is the second time we have had these presentations. They have been very well received by teachers, students and parents. The factual information presented is done in age appropriate ways and provides consistent messages as students learn about their changing bodies as 'scientists'. The parent session will be on Monday, November 16th at 6:30 pm (Zoom invite to be sent out) and class sessions on Wed., Thurs, and Friday that week. A big thank you to PAC for supporting these presentations.

A big thank you to Mrs. Tutte
We really want to extend a huge thank you to Mrs. Tutte. Mrs. Delisimunovic has been off healing a back injury since late August (get well soon :) Since that time, Mrs. Tutte has stepped up and helped us all out in the office. We are greeted with her friendly smile, knowledge of all the students and willingness to learn new things every day. Bravo Mrs. Tutte! And guess what - last night she welcomed her new granddaughter (#3) to the world.
