Labs are Picking up as Halloween is Just Around the Corner!
- Science labs are kicking up in full gear!
- Gather your pawns and knights because MV has a new Chess club! Chess Club meets on Tuesdays from 2 P.M. to 3 P.M. at the tables outside the MPR!
- Interested in earning 2.5 credits while doing something healthy for your mind and body? Come to MV and take Yoga with Mrs. Marina Campenella. Class will be held Monday afternoons for 1 hour. Contact your teacher for more info!
- ROP Horticulture is worth 5 credits per semester and meets on Tuesdays from 1-3 P.M. You get to learn all sorts of things that have to do with growing a garden and getting hands-on.
- Art with Mrs. Deen! Art class will be limited to 20 students in person. The class is typically on Tuesdays around 11, although if you want to join you should speak with Mrs. Deen about scheduling. This lab does not offer credits, but studies show putting your ideas and passions on a piece of canvas (painting or other art creativity) can truly be a great stress reliever, and in turn, you will have a more open mind and might be more productive! Now that is a reward on its own.

Fun Fact of the Month
Californian News By Isabela Tapia
When days become shorter and colder, is when the city is at most danger. But the people of California can help change that. Here in California, our prime fire season is during the fall season. Some may think of pumpkins and orange colors when they hear the words “fall season”. However a light must be shed on the lives that are in danger and the people risking their lives to save others. Over 13,500 firefighters are risking their own lives to save others located in Northern California. This year (2021), California is having a terrible and unpredictable fire season. With the fires, Dixie, Caldor, River Complex, Monument, Antelope and the Tamarock fire. These are the multiple fires that rage over Northern California. From the earliest fire started on July 4, 2021, to the latest fire starting on October 11, 2021. These are just the fires that are not fully contained. Most of these fires were caused by lightning, but last year (2020) most of the fires were caused by climate change. Dr Prichard said, "Extreme fire weather events, including increased lightning and strong winds, are also becoming more common under climate change." August 11, 2021. This means it is our job as the people of California to help work towards change. This is where you step in. Think to yourself how big of an impact my daily life is affecting the world. There are two easy steps to help decrease your personal footprint on the world. The first one is if you are the last person to leave the classroom turn off the lights. This way it will help conserve energy. Another way to help is to take shorter showers. By starting off with these two little tasks we can help prevent wildfires and make California a safer place for all!

Sleep schedules are also incredibly important to maintain, even on the weekends. Sleep is one of the most important bodily functions! Did you know that according to healthline.com "After only three or four nights without sleep, you can start to hallucinate." That shows the power of sleep! So although hallucinating is not fun, you should sleep because of the clarity of mind that it will give you. Plus, if you keep up a regular sleep schedule with a healthy amount of physical activity and a healthy diet, you'll have a lot more energy!
Stay healthy guys, because the benefits are beyond great and it will reach the entire neighborhood!

Rams 26-17 Seahawks
The Rams got off to a hot start, and when the Seahawks’ quarterback Russell Wilson suffered an injury, it looked to be smooth sailing, however, that was not the case. Backup quarterback Geno Smith came in and showcased his talent and almost led a furious comeback as the Seahawks’ defense got it together. Unfortunately, it was too little, too late.
Jets 20-27 Falcons
The Falcons played well, but should have won by more. Rookie quarterback Zach Wilson did not play well for the Jets and the running game was stopped all game long. It may have been a win for Atlanta, but there is room for improvement.
Lions 17-19 Vikings
The Lions might have lost their first 5 games, but a missed call and unfortunate luck has prevented them from starting 2-3. In this game, the Vikings were up by 10 and the defense was holding its own. But the Lions offense scored 11 unanswered points and scored what should have been the game-winner with 36 seconds left to go with the score at 17-16. Unfortunately, the Vikings drove down the field and scored a last second 54-yard game winner to end the game with a Vikings victory.
Broncos 19-27 Steelers
The Broncos had a bunch of question marks after winning their first 3 games against questionable teams. Ever since playing the Ravens they have proved that they weren’t contenders. This game reinforced it. The Broncos almost came back but could not score the much needed touchdown to possibly come back at the end.
Dolphins 17-45 Buccaneers
The Buccaneers may be defending Super Bowl Champions, but the Dolphins didn’t even put up a fight, and it seems as if the organization has done a 180. They went from possible playoff contenders to one of the easier teams to play. Their only win was by 1 point, and they have lost every game since.
Saints 33-23 Washington
The Saints offense clicked on all fronts. Jameis Winston threw for 4 touchdowns while Washington’s quarterback Taylor Heinicke threw for 2 interceptions. Washington may have won the division last year but they still only did it with a 7-9 record. They are now outsiders looking in.
Eagles 21-18 Panthers
The Panthers dominated the first half and they should have won this game smoothly. Unfortunately, they did not put up the same performance in the second half and the Eagles came back to win. The Panthers went from 3-0 to 3-2.
Titans 37-19 Jaguars
Jaguars coach Urban Meyers has lost the locker room and it showed. After certain videos popped up of him at his bar, not only did it affect his reputation off the field it affected it on the field. Players came out saying any faith they had for him is now gone and the team is not listening to what he is saying. The Titans showed up and played football, and that was all they needed to do.
Bears 20-9 Raiders
The Raiders, Broncos, and Panthers all share one thing. Starting out 3-0 with question marks only to lose their next 2 games. The Bears have a ton of holes and critics, especially with head coach Matt Nagy, but this game seemed to be different, as the Bears beat the Raiders. The scoreline doesn’t say it but it was no contest. The Bears defense played amazingly but the offense needs more work.
Packers 25-22 Bengals
An overtime thriller with missed field goals galore. The Packers went up by 8 with only a few minutes to go only for the Bengals to tie it up at 22 a piece. Mason Crosby had a chance to win it for the Packers but missed. The Bengals had one as well but it went wide. The Packers and Mason Crosby got a second chance. It did not go through and the game went into overtime. The Bengals started with the ball but an interception led to a momentum change. Mason Crosby had a chance to end the game right then and there. He missed for the 3rd straight time. The Bengals drove downfield only for their kicker to miss his own field goal for a 2nd straight time. The Packers got the ball and Mason Crosby had a chance at redemption. He made it, and the game ended in what must have been a thrilling game for both sets of fans. Both teams now have question marks as they had chances to finish the game but couldn’t deliver.
Browns 42-47 Chargers
A game for the ages, and arguably game of the year. The Browns lose another 42-47 game thriller, this time to the Chargers. Both teams played incredibly well and had big plays after big plays. This was a game where unfortunately one team had to lose. The Browns were unfortunately this team.
Patriots 25-22 Texans
The Texans had the game in their grasp. They were winning 22-9, but just could not hold on to the lead, and the Patriots came back to win with the help of rookie quarterback Mac Jones.
Giants 20-44 Cowboys
The Cowboys are arguably a great team. Dak Prescott proved he is the Cowboys offense, and he is a top quarterback in the NFL.
49ers 10-17 Cardinals
The Cardinals remain the only undefeated team in the league. Their offense struggled, but it was the defense that shined and carried this team to another win.
Bills 38-20 Chiefs
Anyone who watched this game realized how the Chiefs defense was not on point and crumbled. This team relies on the offense, and Patrick Mahomes and the offense got shut down. The defense needs work, and a lot of it. If not, it could end up with a lot of jobs on the line.
Colts 25-31 Ravens
LaMar Jackson had a career game with 4 touchdowns and 442 passing yards, but the Colts appeared to be the better team on paper. They were up by 16 at a point in the game and had the chance to win, only for their kicker to miss at the last second. The Ravens got the ball at the start of overtime and went down the field to score a touchdown to win the game.

NFL Week 7 Preview by Thomas Bonvehi
Broncos 10-23 Browns
The Broncos have gone from 3-0 to 3-3. The Browns also have the same record but they have had to play the Chargers, Chiefs, and Cardinals, who all have electric offenses. The Broncos are on course to go from possible playoff contender to mediocre, and the Browns have had to play quality opponent after quality opponent.
Chiefs 7-10 Titans
The first surprise on the list, I believe neither team will be able to get their offense rolling, until late in the 4th quarter. Both defenses will have a solid game unlike the past couple of weeks, but Derrick Henry and company will score a last minute touchdown to seal a win for the Titans.
Washington 10-30 Packers
Last year Washington’s defense was incredible. This year has been pretty different for Washington regarding their defense. Aaron Rodgers will torch the secondary and AJ Dillon and Aaron Jones will have 200+ yards on the day combined. The Packers defense will be solid even without Jaire Alexander, and will hold Washington to only 10 points.
Bengals 24-20 Ravens
The first upset. The Ravens may have dismantled the Chargers, but I feel like they will overlook Joe Burrow and the Bengals. The Bengals defense will force a turnover and Joe Burrow will throw 2 touchdowns, one with just 3 minutes to go.
Panthers 14-20 Giants
The Panthers have fallen into the same category as the Broncos. A great start only to lose 3 straight. The Giants may be injured but players and coaches need to solidify their placement on the team, which will lead to a surprise Giants win.
Falcons 30-3 Dolphins
The Dolphins are an utter train-wreck. They went from playoff contenders to one of the worst teams in the NFL. They gave Jacksonville their first win in 20 games. The Falcons may be in turmoil but they have an outside chance to make the playoffs, and they will do their best to try and get to January football. This game will merely reinforce it.
Jets 10-28 Patriots
A tale of two rookies. Zach Wilson is on pace to break the NFL record for most interceptions thrown by a rookie, and Mac Jones has been decent but not flashy. This game will come down to the quarterbacks. Mac Jones will throw for 150+ yards and a touchdown, while Zach Wilson will throw 2 interceptions.
Eagles 10-16 Raiders
Another overtime game for the Raiders. The Raiders had an easy picking in the Broncos last week and same will go for the Eagles. However, with Jon Gruden’s emails being leaked and him resigning last week before the Broncos game, the Raiders will lose a bit of their identity and will barely scrape out a win thanks to Derek Carr.
Lions 20-21 Rams
More misery for the Lions. The Lions are the only winless team in the league and while this seems like a blowout on paper, the Lions will do their best to try and win this game. They will be down 14-0 but will come storming back by scoring 20 unanswered points, only for Matthew Stafford to win the game in the final seconds of the game.
Bears 0-33 Buccaneers
Justin Fields is in for a world of pain. Arguably the best defense will torch the Bears offensive line and the Bucs offense will be clicking on all cylinders for an easy victory. This should be no contest for the defending champs.
Texans 13-30 Cardinals
Kyler Murray will torch whatever the Texans call a secondary. He will throw for 300+ yards and 2 touchdowns while the defense forces a pick-six and a fumble. The Texans have no identity on either side of the ball, and going up against the only undefeated team in the NFL is going to change nothing.
Colts 21-13 49ers
The 49ers were looking like a solid team in the first 2 weeks. They haven’t won a single game since. The Colts have a solid pass rush and their secondary is alright but works as a unit. The Colts offense will produce in bunches with Carson Wentz throwing for a touchdown and 200+ yards while the running game gets 110+ yards.
Saints 13-6 Seahawks
The Saints have fallen into a pattern of winning a game, then losing a game. However, they get to play Seattle, who have a terrible defense and are missing their best player in Russell Wilson. But I think neither offense will get anything going, with 5+ turnovers on the day. The only touchdown will come from the Saints defense as Geno Smith will throw a pick-six late in the 1st half.
