Our Mission
The Spencer Community is devoted to developing every child's ability to succeed.
Thank You!
We would like to thank the PTO for all of their hard work on the annual Ice Cream Social. We had a fabulous turn out and some great weather to enjoy a delicious treat. Thank you to the teachers who volunteered to help scoop last night. What a great way to spend some time with the kids and families outside of the classroom!
Also, a big thank you to Mrs. Adams and Mrs. Latimer for their hard work setting up for, and their dedication to, the Spring Book Fair. We are so lucky to have you, along with your passion for books, here at Spencer!

Recess Run
We are welcoming spring, and it's warm temperatures by taking in a few laps and running at lunch. If you didn't know, the Spencer Recess Run has started during all of the lunches at Spencer.
Your child will have the opportunity to run laps around the back playground area to earn toe-tokens. After so many laps, your child receives one token and can put it on their recess run necklace.
This entire program is run entirely on volunteers who come in during lunch on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. Thank you to Mrs. Mertes and Mrs. Randall for organizing the help, preparing the sticks, and getting the kids excited about exercising. Thanks to those that freely give your time to tally laps and cheer the students on as they run.
In the past, we held a competition to see who can earn the most toe tokens. This year we've decided to take a different approach and make it an individual goal of running as many laps as you can. By doing it this way, we're promoting healthy living, fitness, and goal setting that is individualized.
If you'd love to soak up some sun and see a ton of smiles, stop by at lunch and lend a hand, we'd love to have you! See below for more details.
How you can get involved:
Join us for recess run during all lunch recesses on Monday, Wednesday and Friday from Monday, May 6 - Friday, May 31, 2019.
As with all PTO events we cannot do this without the help of our amazing volunteers. We need parents, grandparent and friends to come out to help count laps, cheer for the kids and help hand out tokens. Younger siblings are welcome to come out to cheer or run laps themselves.
Volunteers are needed from 11:00 am - 1:35 pm on Monday, Wednesday and Friday.
PLEASE INCLUDE YOUR CELL NUMBER WHEN SIGNING UP. In the event of adverse weather or field conditions, a weather determination will be made each recess run day by 10:00 AM. A text message will be sent out to all people signed up that day in the event of a weather cancelation. Please bring water and sunscreen, there is limited shade available for volunteers.

Raptor Sign-In System
Remember Your ID
The Raptor system is being installed in all Brighton schools to supplement the district’s program of campus safety for students and staff. Part of keeping students and faculty safe is knowing who is in our buildings at all times, and the Raptor system will allow us to do that. Raptor will better inform us of the visitors, contractors, and volunteers seeking entry into our schools, and provide us with a safer environment for our students and staff.
The visitor process will appear like this:
Upon entering a district building, visitors will be asked to present an ID, which may be scanned or manually entered into the system.
If a parent or guardian does not have government-issued identification, the school staff member can ask to see another form of ID and manually enter the person’s name into the Raptor system to perform a background check. The Raptor system only checks the visitor's name and date of birth, no other data from the ID is gathered or recorded, and the information is not shared with any outside agency.
Once an entry is approved, Raptor will issue a badge that identifies the visitor, the date, and the purpose for his/her visit.
It’s important to note that a visitor’s badge will not be necessary for those who visit our schools simply to drop off an item in the office or pick up paperwork. If a person does not have identification, he/she can still be given access to the building but will be escorted by a school staff member.
To learn more about the Raptor visitor management system, please visit the Raptor
Technologies website at www.raptortech.com. If you have any questions for district
personnel, please contact Police Liaison Office Christopher Parks at (810) 299-4100.
The safety of our students is our highest priority and the Raptor visitor management
the system provides a consistent means for keeping away people who may present a
danger to our students. We want to thank our community in advance for your
understanding and support for enhancing building safety protocols in Brighton Area
Schools.
