RISD Elementary Parent Newsletter
Week of 3/25/19
Message from Julie
Dear RISD Elementary Parents,
WOW! I hope you were able to attend our Art and Music Gala at SME this past week! What an awesome event! We sure have a lot of talented kiddos - and thank you to the unbelievable hard work of our very own Mrs. Libby and Mrs. Duvall. We are so lucky to have such gifted teachers helping our students be the best they can be!
Lately I have heard a lot of parents of our younger students discussing the need to work with them at home. Just a quick word about that - studies show that the only long term benefit to doing homewrok with students under 3rd grade is if they read at home. Many schools are going to a no homework model for younger grades. Just a word to take some pressure off of yourself - our kids' schedules are so packed and they need some traditional downtime sometimes. Standards have increased dramatically at schools, and sometimes it is important for kids just to be kids. (Ok, I will get off my soap box).
Thanks to all those who came out to pass our budget! Though I won't be able to see the changes next year, we put in a lot of support for students (social emotional speech, occupational therapy) who aren't on IEPs. I think it will be of great benefit to our kids.
Please try to get involved as much as you can! It is so important for parents to have a voice in their children's educations. I recently met with a couple parents who are looking to volunteer in classes. We would LOVE more parent involvement - be it doing a craft, volunteering in Genius Hour, or just being a guest reader. We love parent involvement!
I hope you enjoy a great weekend! THINK SPRING!
Our spring Concert has been rescheduled again to 5/28 due to a conflict with the accompianst. Mark your calendars! It is going to be incredible!
I hope you have a great week! As always, please let me know if you have any questions or concerns; my door(s) are always open!
Warmly,
Julie

Our students cannot access youtube while they are at school, so this shouldn't be an issue there. As always, we continue our diligence to safe internet access.
