Principal's Message
It’s been a great week at Hallinan. Though we know the transition to a mask optional policy in our school district has been met with either excitement or trepidation by many, I am proud to say that our learning community has met my expectations by being kind and supportive to all.
To keep everyone safe, please continue to be diligent about keeping sick children home. Students, families and staff should stay home when these symptoms are present: fever, chills, cough, shortness of breath, fatigue, muscle or body aches, headache, loss of taste or smell, sore throat, congestion or runny nose, nausea or vomiting and/or diarrhea.
We recognize the importance of uninterrupted in-person learning for our students, and we love having volunteers back in the building. We are especially excited that Art Literacy started up again this week. Students are learning about two Baroque artists Diego Velazquez and Gianlorenzo Bernini this month. Line, form, value, contrast, movement and repetition were discussed and students created incredible and often elaborate sculptures. A few 2nd and 3rd grade masterpieces can be viewed below! We are grateful to the wonderful volunteers that guided students through this lesson and project.
Wishing you a very fun and safe spring break!
Melissa Griffiths

Lockdown Drill March 31
We are grateful to have your students with us everyday and we take pride in providing them with an outstanding education. Part of our responsibility includes keeping them safe while they are on campus so they can stay engaged while learning.
On Thursday, March 31, our teachers and students will be practicing the process of what we would do in an emergency Lockdown. Teachers will prepare students ahead of the drill and continue to reassure students that this is a drill and that everyone is safe at school.
We taught students this process (but didn't practice it) in November. If you would like to prepare your child ahead of time, here are some resources you can review as a family. For our Kindergarten through 3rd grade families, use this Lock Down Story Book to guide discussions and 4th and 5th grade families may watch and discuss this video.
A lockdown means there is a possible threat inside the school. This is not business as usual. Hallways are cleared, all classroom doors are locked, and lights are turned out. Students and staff are instructed to stay quiet and out of sight during a lockdown.
We follow the I Love U Guys Standard Response Protocol and partner with our School Resource Officer, James Euscher.
We thank you for your help and cooperation, as we work to provide safe learning environments for all students in the Lake Oswego School District.
Parent/Teacher Conferences 4/7 & 4/8
Parent/Teacher Conferences are on Thursday, April 7 & Friday, April 8. Families should expect to receive a Sign-up Genius from their child's teacher by Wednesday, March 30. Families may choose to attend their conference in-person or via zoom at the time they sign up, by noting their preference in the comment section.
Reminder: No school for students on 4/7 & 4/8. Conferences are for parents only, unless noted by your child's teacher. We do not have childcare for students. If you don't have childcare, please sign up for a zoom conference.
We look forward to seeing you!
