The Texas Education Agency requires we provide the school community the "2014-2015 Texas Academic Performance Report". You can view the information on our school at the link below. The report card has information on our Distinctions (Academic Achievement in Reading/ Language Arts, Top 25 Percent in Student Progress and Post secondary Readiness), overall test scores, and campus profile information.
Next week, our school along with thousands of students across the world, will participate in the Hour of Code. We participated last year and the kids had so much fun. Your child can actually code at home. Just have them go to the the hour of code website and they can code away. There are some cool coding items about Star Wars!
We have some new staff that have joined us. Andrea Rogalski is now an official employee who is taking the place of Kay Brew, who has had some medical concerns. Mrs. Rogalski is a one on one teaching assistant and has two children that attend Boone. Renee Valencia is an additional teaching assistant we were allotted due to large numbers of students in special education. Renee was a long time PE teacher at Baranoff. She stayed home with her young child but misses working with kids. So she joins us with the best of both worlds for her family. Finally, we have a new Student Health Assistant (SHA) who works in the nurse's office. She is here part time and is often here when the nurse is not. Her name is Janice Gibson. She is so very kind and supportive of the kids. Janice grew up in Trent, Texas, near Abilene. In 2008, she graduated from the University of Texas with a BA in Biology. Janice has worked for Seton as a Clinical Assistant for 3 1/2 years and her future goal is to become a Registered Nurse.
Our 5th graders participated in the Legacy of Giving drop off day before Thanksgiving. They helped take the huge amounts of canned goods and coats to the Austin Area Food Bank. This program helps all of us think about others and how we all can be philanthropists.
It is not too early to be thinking about middle school options. The district is holding a Middle School Choice Fair on Saturday, December 5th from 9-12pm at Fulmore Middle School. All middle schools will be available with information about their school and the programs they offer.
Don't forget to follow us on Twitter @BooneBears. I send out updates and fun information about great things happening at Boone.
We do have some more tours for potential new students to Boone this Friday and the following Friday. Send anyone you know that wants to learn more about Boone at 8:30 on those days.

Career Day Speakers
Boone’s Career Days is coming soon! Local business owners, parents, family members, and friends are welcome to present and share with our 4th and 5th grade students on Thursday, January 28 or Friday, January 29. Students will listen and ask speakers questions about their job in 25-minute rotations. Last year’s speakers spoke with about 2 groups (1 hour total).
Leading up to Career Days, 4-5th graders will have guidance lessons on a variety of career paths, take an interest inventory, and learn more about how they can prepare themselves for their future.
The teachers and I appreciate any amount of time you can provide for the students. We are more than happy to work with your schedule.
When: Thursday, January 28-Friday, January 29
Times: During School (8:00-2:30)

Social Emotional Learning Update
We are on Week 11 of our Second Step lessons. This week’s message and lesson is about accidents.
“Accidents happen all the time. If something happens to you by accident, think about how it could have been an accident and find out more information. If you do something by accident, think about how the other person feels, apologize, and offer to help. Today notice what happens when there is an accident at school or at home.”
There are home links that go with several of the Second Step lessons. Home Links are simple, fun activities for you and your child to complete together. They are a great way for you to understand what your child is learning and for your child to show you what he or she knows. You can find these home links and calendar on my website http://boonebearscounseling.weebly.com/ under “SEL Resources
Donors Choose Projects
Meg Brice has an open donors choose project for iPads and special grip cases for her special needs students. Those materials will help with social skills instruction.
Yesenia Zecca also has an open donors choose project to help offset costs for the 5th graders to attend Camp Champions in May. The camp can be expensive for some families.
SUCCESS: Evon Davis had a donors choose project funded on line for over $3200! Her students will benefit from new math manipulatives, science tools, grammar books, writing activity books, and some new carpets.
We appreciate the students from the St. Edward's University American Chemical Society who came and did science demonstrations for 3rd and 5th graders on Tuesday, December 1st.
