14th Sunday of Ordinary Time
3 July 2022
Readings for today
1st Reading: Isaiah 66:10-14
2nd Reading: St Paul to the Galatians 6:14-18
Gospel: Luke 10:1-12, 17-20
Welcome to the Cathedral of the Blessed Virgin Mary & St Matthew
The disciples’ journey and their announcement of the coming of the Kingdom — and of the King himself — was the action. But beneath the surface, within the hearts and souls of those early evangelizers was their faith in and relationship with Jesus and with one another.
Fr Isaac reflection...
This is your comfort and boast – you are a child of God, through the cross of Jesus Christ
The Lord today is demanding of us one thing, to be his disciples. But what is that? How are we to be
a disciple of Jesus in today’s divided and conflicted world? Well, we hear in the first reading that the
Lord is coming to comfort Israel, to nurse her nestlings and care for them. Yet, in the second reading
we hear of St Paul boasting only in the cross of Jesus Christ. Then, in the Gospel Jesus gives simple
direct instructions in his mission, to spread the Gospel (Good News). With this simple mission, the
greatest thing is not what status we have, not what power we have, not what influence we have, but
the important fact that we are Children of God and offering his redemptive mercy to others. We are
to use our status and power and influence – for Christ – but remember this, you are a child of God,
and your names are written in heaven, yes, this is the greatest thing. Be humble in how you show
others this mercy you have been given, through Christ’s cross.

We pray for the Ukraine...
Holy and Gracious God
We pray for the people of the Ukraine, for their country and their leader.
We pray for all those who are afraid; that your everlasting arms hold them in this time of great fear.
We pray for all those who have the power over life and death; that they will choose for all people life, and life in all its fullness.
We pray for those who choose war; that they will remember that you direct your people to turn our swords into ploughshares and seek for peace.
We pray for leaders on the world stage; that they are inspired by the wisdom and courage of Christ.
Above all, Lord, today we pray for peace in Ukraine.
And we ask this in the name of your blessed Son.
Lord have mercy.
Amen
