Here are a few reminders and a few procedures we will have this school year.
Student Planners-
Every student will be given a planner. the purpose of the planner is for communication between school and home. Teachers will initial color bar to report the daily behavior, teacher may write important information or concerns from the day. Parents who need to change transportation may write notes in the planner.
Parent/Teacher Communication-
This year 3rd grade teachers will be utilizing Remind . A flyer with the Remind information is attached to this newsletter. You will receive two Remind flyers. One will be for Math/Science and one will be for Reading/Social Studies. Remind is a simple way to stay informed of what is happening in the classroom. This is a one way communication tool and the number listed is generated by the online service. Your phone number is safe and secure. Please follow the instructions on the flyer under the "Join via SMS" portion.

Supplies-
Thank you parents for sending school supplies. If your student did not bring all required supplies please be sure to send them. Also at Meet the Teacher we requested students bring a plastic school box.

Math- Mrs. Garcia and Mrs. Martinez
3rd grade will be begin the first six weeks with the first unit- Foundations of numbers.
The students will study the composing and decomposing numbers up to 100,000, identifying base-10 relationships through the hundred thousands place, and comparing and ordering these numbers. During this unit, students extend their understanding of the thousands period to include the ten thousands and hundred thousands places. Students compose and decompose numbers through 100,000 as so many ten thousands, so many thousands, so many hundreds, so many tens, and so many ones using concrete objects, pictorial models, and numerical representations. Math will be using quizlet for vocabulary that will be used in the classroom and can be accessed at home. Please look for the quizlet link in your students planner.
Science- Mrs. Martinez and Mrs. Garcia
3rd grade will be begin this first six weeks with the first unit- Investigating properties of matter.Students will study the physical properties of matter as they become familiar with standard units of measurement. We will use a variety of tools and equipment to measure, test, and record temperature, mass, magnetism, and an object’s ability to sink or float. Science will be using quizlet for vocabulary that will be used in the classroom and accessed at home. Please look for the quizlet link in your students planner.
Social Studies- Ms. Andreatta and Ms. Koerth
In our first unit of study for Social Studies, we will be exploring our community: what communities are, the characteristics of good citizenship in a community (and the classroom), physical characteristics, and why people form communities. We will also increase our map skills. We will be studying the Constitution, Bill of Rights, and Declaration of Independence. At home you can discuss your local community, what communities are, the characteristics of good citizenship in a community (and the classroom) and why people form communities (including the local community).
