The Body Size

Length: About 50 Feet Long

Weight: Can Be Up To 70 Tons

Appearance: Stocky black body, with no dorsal fin, callosities (raised patches of rough skin) on the head region.

Diet

Carnivorous through a baleen.

Mainly zooplankton, copelepods, euphausiids, and cyprids.

Baleen Whales filter food from the water through sieve-like plates.

Habitat

The North Atlatic right whale is typically found from the bay of Fundy to Florida. The whales move during different times of the year in order to feed.

The 5 Senses

Whales and dolphins lost all taste abilities except salt. not much else is known about the whales senses.

Relatives

North Pacific right whale and the Southern right whale are the closer relatives. The bowhead whale is a more distant relative.

Threats

The major threats to right whales population due to the sheer size of the whales are collitions with ships, entanglement inside of nets, noise adding to the acoustic smog, and climate change.
