Mrs. Licari's Letter
Happy Spring! Mmmmmmm Maybe?
Welcome back from spring vacation! Below you will find a list of very important testing dates for your student. The State of Michigan requires the M-step test and the district requires us to administer the Measure of Academic Progress (MAP testing). These tests are long and often stressful for some students. Please help your child to do their best by making sure they are getting adequate rest and a nutritious diet during this time. Encourage them to use their best test taking skills. Some examples we have worked on are crossing out the crazy choices (reducing answer choices by eliminating ones that clearly are not correct). Skim the text for words from the question, and use text feature (maps, graphs and pictures) to answer some question. These tests are not timed and students will be given as much time as possible to complete their work. Even if that means pausing the test and resuming it another day. Please encourage them to take their time and give their best effort. Below you will find a sign up link to donate snacks and rewards before and after testing sessions.
Before our testing window begins we will take our much anticipated trip to Charlton Park on Monday, April 18. Thank you to EVERYONE who volunteered. We are limited as to the number of chaperones we can take on the bus and invite for the program portion of our trip. I have contacted those whose names were drawn. However all parents are welcome to join us for lunch around 11:30 ish and to tour any remaining buildings. All students will need to bring a sack lunch with their name on it and a drink on that day. Students may visit the gift shop, but we will save that for the final stop of our day so that it does not become the focus of our trip.
Multiplication fact fluency is essential for success in fourth grade mathematics. Students should be getting their green light on 4-5 times a week in Reflex. I am currently working on those facts in the classroom and in the lab. However soon our lab will close and that opportunity will diminish. Please encourage your child to work on this goal at home. Many children have mastered their 0-10 facts, but will still need to review them so that they don't lose this brand new skill. As mentioned at parent teacher conferences this site will be available as well as IXL all summer.
The PTO and Mrs. Onopa are both in need of help for upcoming events. Please see those opportunities below. Grandparents also make great additions to our volunteer list.
Thank you to all the parents who have waited to put away the boots and hats. Our playground area can be so muddy and the air is still quite damp and cool. Hopefully spring temps will arrive shortly. I am also in need of kleenex. Some weeks we go through a box a day. If you know your child is struggling with spring allergies pleases consider donating a box for the room.
