Weekly Update
September 11 Update for Intermediate Families
Information Regarding School Opening and iReady Diagnostic Assessments That Begin This Week
We had a wonderful first week!!!!
I want to thank our students, staff members, and parents for a fantastic Opening Week! The 2022-2023 school year is off to a fine start. The past week was a very busy one! Here are some important dates for the opening of school for Intermediate students:
- Thursday, September 8: All students had presentations on building expectations and routines for lunch, recess, arrival and dismissal.
- Friday, September 9: Our MTSS (Multi-Tiered System of Supports) Team had a special program for students in the cafeteria where we rolled-out our building theme for this year- Reach for the Stars!
- During the first two weeks: All students will participate in an agenda "scavenger hunt" to familiarize them with their Student Agenda- a tool we hope they will use throughout the year.
- Friday, September 23: We will have our first pep assembly of the year together in our cafeteria. This will be our first in-person pep assembly in a couple of years, and we are very excited about it! We will celebrate the opening of school and also recognize students who have completed their summer work packets.
- Thursday, September 29: Open House & Book Fair- we are excited to be able to return to an in-person Open House! We invite you to join us at school from 5:45 PM - 7:00 PM on Thursday, September 29.
Teachers will spend the month of September getting to know their students, teaching classroom routines, and developing intervention groups for reading and math.
iReady Reading Diagnostic:
All students in the Intermediate School will take their iReady fall reading diagnostic starting this Tuesday, September 13. iReady is a nationally-normed assessment that will give help teachers understand the skill level and grade level students have on different components of reading. We will follow best practice by limiting the time spent on the diagnostic to 40 minutes per day. Students will be provided with as much time as they need for this diagnostic, though most students will complete the diagnostic on Wednesday or Thursday. There is no studying or preparation students need to do except get a good nights sleep. Please encourage your child to do his or her best on the diagnostic because the more effort they put into it, the more accurate the results will be, and that will help teachers know where to focus during reading instruction. All parents will be mailed a copy of their child's iReady diagnostic results for the fall reading and math. There is more information on iReady contained later in this newsletter.
We want to partner with parents to support your child's education. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to reach out to Intermediate School Counselor Mrs. Bucenec through email at mbucenec@soduscsd.org, or by calling the 315-483-5281. You can also reach me through email at ehoskins@soduscsd.org, or by phone during school hours at 315-483-5206, or outside of the school day on my cell phone at 315-576-7090. It is a privilege to work with our students, and we want to work proactively with families solve problems and address concerns!
