Duke Energy Foundation Provides $4,200 for School Supplies for Students in Florence 1 Schools
The Duke Energy Foundation presented a grant award of $4,200 on Wednesday to elementary principals in Florence 1 Schools, part of a statewide initiative providing nearly $200,000 in small grants to schools across the Palmetto State to help teachers fill any gaps in supplies for students this school year.
“Bright futures begin in the classroom, and every child deserves a fair chance at academic success,” said Mindy Taylor, government and community relations manager for Duke Energy.
The effort will focus on schools that have 75% or more of their students who qualify for free and reduced lunches in the company’s South Carolina service territory. In all, 43 districts including 275 schools were eligible to file for the grants. The Florence 1 schools that will benefit from the grant include Dewey Carter Elementary, Lester Elementary, North Vista Elementary, Palmetto Youth Academy, Timrod Elementary and Wallace-Gregg Elementary.
Each qualifying school is eligible for up to $700 in grant funds to purchase basic school supplies for students in need.
