Principal Message
Moving Forward but Remembering the Past
When we talk about perseverance with students, we ask that they understand and acknowledge their feelings and emotions about it. Understanding when things are hard helps them identify when perseverance is needed. Part of that is developed by examining the past while making a plan to move forward. Practicing strategies to solve previous problems helps to develop a repertoire of skills that build perseverance and resilience.
My summer was one such example that required resilience and perseverance. At first, I was optimistic that this 21-22 school year would be completely different than the one prior. However, as time ticked closer, it became more evident that COVID was still prevalent. I used my perseverance and problem solving skills from the previous year to help apply to the current year. I was right, this year was different, but still not “normal”, which allowed me to use my previous strategies.
I was reminded of this as I walked into school one morning in the middle of the summer. I was overwhelmed by COVID and the cicada infestation was in full bloom. I looked down at the newly poured cement block at our front walkway outside of GRE. I immediately chuckled as I noticed what seemed to be a representation of how I felt at the time. Cicadas has dive-bombed the concrete and are forever imprinted in GRE, almost to commemorate a year we may not want to remember. However, remembering last year helped me with my resilience and perseverance to approach this year.
So, as we approach the end of this year, I have learned difficult lessons this year too. It is part of our growth. That growth makes GRE an increasingly better place every day.
Thank you for your perseverance and resilience as we collaboratively support our students with their own growth and perseverance.
Sincerely,
Pete Kurty, Ed. D
Principal
GRE ANNOUNCEMENTS
Still Lots of Lost and Found
End of Grading Period and Grade Cards
End of the grading period is on Friday, December 17th. Grade cards will be posted on January 8th.
Holiday Post Office
Starting Monday, December 6- Wednesday December 16, students will be able to purchase stamps in the mornings from 9:00-9:10 from the fifth graders. The stamps are used to mail Choose Kind letters to other students and staff at Glacier Ridge that are delivered at the end of the day. The proceeds from the sale of the stamps goes to benefit One Dublin.
Fifth grade students experience the business of creating postage stamps to sell to students. The idea of supply and demand, opportunity cost, labor and division, banking, sales experience, customer service, and profit / loss are all linked to our fifth grade economics standards.

21-25 degrees with wind chill - lunch recess will be indoors, short recess will be outdoors
26 degrees with wind chill and warmer - all recesses will be outdoors
One Dublin & GRE Adopt a Family
Welcome Warehouse is now One Dublin. For nearly 15 years, Welcome Warehouse has been a resource for Dublin families in need. Our new name will not affect our current services; in fact, it gives us the flexibility to grow and adapt to the changing needs of our community.
GRE is again supporting a school wide community outreach partnership with One Dublin (Welcome Warehouse) for the Holiday season. The “Adopt A Family” program provides help for nearly 200 families who are in temporary need in the Dublin School System (referred by school guidance counselors). GRE will be adopting multiple families during this holiday season. All students will be wrapping them and will celebrate our community efforts at our Celebration of Giving ceremony on December 17th.
