Ericson Sea King Weekly Review
August 17-21
Kids will remember very few rules and academic concepts from their first days of school, but they surely will remember whether or not they feel safe, comfortable, and welcomed by their teacher. - Teacher Goals -
Wishing You All an Amazing First Week of Distance Learning
Thank you for a GREAT week!
We have had several moving parts this past week to ensure we will be ready for our students, next week. Thank you for your continued engagement in learning, collaboration, and professional development.
Our Doug Fisher training was awesome.... It was nice to see some our teachers sharing their thoughts and comments in the CHAT with the entire group of 470 FUSD educators. Doug shared so many great ideas and strategies to use as we begin our online/virtual/distance learning journey. A few of the important points that stood out:
- We need to Accelerate not Remediate
- The setting is not the deciding factor if students will learn, IT'S the Teacher and Instruction
- Teacher Clarity: Consistent Schedules and Expectations
- The 3 Questions: What am I Learning, Why and I Learning This, and How Will I Know I Learned it?
- I also LOVED: Student Jobs, and Wheel of Names student engagement strategies.
PLEASE, remember to give yourself GRACE, as well as giving others GRACE!! This is so truly important, as we need to be okay with where we are in our OWN journey of learning. As educators, we are life long learners and will continue to build our knowledge in using technology to engage our students.
WE GOT THIS!
A big thank you to Melissa, Raylene, and our support staff for VOLUNTEERING their time to ensure all students have a bag with supplies and curriculum.
You are each doing profound work during this historical time where education is being reimagined and transformed like never before. I am so very proud of the work we have accomplished, and I commend you for all you are doing to support each other during this time of accelerated learning on so many levels!
Have an amazing first week of distance learning and thank you for being such a dedicated and supportive staff! Go Sea Kings!
