Mary's Mount Primary School
Term 1, Week 9 - 1 April 2021
We are One with the Risen Christ
Lord,
We lift our hearts to you. As the dawn breaks, may we carry the unity we share into every moment knowing that we are one with the risen Christ. Lord, we lift our eyes to you. As the sunrises, may this moment stay with us, reminding us to look for the beautiful colours of promise in your word. Lord, we lift our prayers to you. As the dew air falls, may we breathe this morning in and know that like the earth, you sustain us, keep us and work within us always. And so, we lift our voices to you. We celebrate the greatest day in history, when Jesus rose from death, defeated darkness and bathed the world in stunning resurrection light. May we ever live to praise you!
Amen
PRINCIPAL'S NEWS
We have come to the end of a short but extremely busy first term.
Despite starting the term with a week of lockdown, we have been blessed to have the rest of the term free from any COVID disruptions. Thank you to our parent/carer community for your ongoing support with our COVID safe practices at school.
P&F EASTER RAFFLE AND GENEROSITY OF SPIRIT
I would like to extend a big thank you to our P&F and especially the Year 2 parents for organising the 2021 Easter Raffle. It was a huge success and I think the smiles on the children’s faces as they waited in anticipation at assembly this morning to see if they won a raffle prize was testament to this!
We are deeply grateful for the large number of parent volunteers who assist our school throughout the year. This is what community is all about. It is only through partnership with our parents, grandparents and carers that we are able to run these type of events for our children and families to enjoy.
The P&F have extended their generosity to the wider community. Not far away from our school is Esther House, where there are children not as fortunate as us. Donations for our Easter items will be gifted to Esther House this afternoon by P&F representatives. The spirit of generosity is alive in our Mary's Mount Primary School Community.
OUTDOOR SACRED SPACE
As mentioned in last weeks newsletter, a Sacred Space at Mary’s Mount Primary School will commemorate the century of our school, which honours tradition and creates a place for prayer and spiritual connection for current, past and future members of our school community. It is a space that will combine our commitment to expressing our Catholic identity and environmental sustainability. The ownership of the space by the students is an essential vision. Over the course of the construction, every student in the school will be involved.
I invite community members to fill out the form below to join the working party to bring this SACRED SPACE dream to reality. School Advisory Council members, Dave Vallis and Melanie Tonon along with myself will be part of the planning group. I thank community members who have already expressed their interest in being involved.

NAPLAN
This year, our students in Years 3 and 5 will undertake NAPLAN online, commencing on Tuesday 11th May.
Our preparations for this are already well underway. Our teachers will be working during class time to ensure that students are very comfortable with the question styles and formats before sitting the tests. In addition to regular practice questions, we will undertake a coordinated practice test tomorrow.
To assist students, parents and teachers to explore the test format and become familiar with all the tools and settings that can be used in the tests, there is a public demonstrations site available. All parents are invited to explore this site if they are interested.

WINTER UNIFORM
A reminder that students are to wear our school's winter uniform when they return to school in Term 2.
EASTER
Easter is the celebration of Christ's resurrection from the dead. As we know from the Gospels, Jesus rose from the dead on the third day following his crucifixion and when he appeared to his disciples, the first words he said to them were “Peace be with you”. We wish all our school families a Happy Easter and we trust that the Lord’s peace may be with all of you too.
Take care over the holidays and we look forward to seeing you all back at school on Monday, 19th April.

AN UPDATE ON CENTENARY EVENTS
100 YEAR DINNER UPDATE – 22 May 2021
Thank you to everyone who has purchased tickets to our 100 Year Gala Dinner so far. Tickets have been selling fast, so if you haven’t purchased your tickets yet, don’t wait too long. It will be a great evening with Tim MacMillan (ex MMPS student) agreeing to emcee the evening for us. There is a superb line up of entertainment including the band HighNRG. Behind the scenes Naomi Holly, Linzi Moore, Natalie O’Brien, Maria Bonomi and Gabby Hoffmann have been planning this event to make sure it will be befitting of a 100 years of Catholic education celebration at MMPS.
Sponsorship has been coming in, thanks to Bettina Hanna who is heading this up. We are still in need of additional sponsorship to help subsidise the cost for the evening. If you have a business, or work for someone who may be interested in being a sponsor of this event, have a look at the sponsorship document below. We have also had some families sponsor a table for $100, so if this sounds like something you may be interested in, you can email Bettina via sponsorship@mmps.wa.edu.au or by contacting the school office. You could even sponsor a table under a class – ie. Y5 class and have 10 people in the class each contribute $10 each.
100 YEAR MASS AT ST MARY'S CATHEDRAL – 17 June 2021
A whole school mass and morning tea has been planned for the morning of 17 June 2021 at St Mary’s Cathedral. Parents and past families will also be able to attend. Details about this will be available early next term.
OPEN SCHOOL – 29 OCTOBER 2021 – SAVE THE DATE
A date has been locked in for our school’s 100 Year Open Afternoon. The event will be a combination of our school’s annual Performing Arts evening, as well as historical displays and centenary celebrations for the whole family. This open day will be for all current, past and future students, as well as grandparents, so spread the word.
MEMORABILIA
Term 2 will see the launch of some 100 Year Memorabilia including Bricks and other special items. Stay tuned for information on this next term.
P&F UPDATE
What a great end to Term One! Today we drew our Easter Raffle prizes and donated an extra basket of Easter items to families currently staying with the Esther Group, a local community group based here in the Perth Hills. We were so pleased to present the group with our Easter items and to see the smiles on the faces of the children who will be receiving these goodies at Easter. A very special thank you to every family who donated items and also to those who purchased tickets, as well as our wonderful Year 2 parent group who coordinated this year's raffle. All funds raised from this raffle will be directed towards finishing our school Nature Playground.
