PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE: Distance Learning - Week Three!
Thank you to all of you who are connecting with your teachers! At this point, Boulder Creek has made contact with nearly every family! This is great news. Please make sure you are remaining in contact with your child's teacher to ensure your child is completing assignments. Middle school parents, be sure to continue monitoring your child's trimester three grades on Power School. You will be able to see whether or not assignments are missing.
Watch the BC Bear Facts Newsletter regularly. There are re-occurring sections of the newsletter that are updated and provide you answers and resources on a weekly basis. These sections include:
- Principal's Message

GRADUATION?
Since we are nearly in the month of May, it looks like we will need to roll with a plan B. Even if our state/county is able to begin to re-open before the beginning of June, we are certain that large gatherings will still be ill-advised or prohibited for health and safety purposes. Social distancing will certainly still be in effect as well.
With this in mind, graduation will likely take place in a drive-thru format. We have many ideas for making this a fun and memorable occasion for our graduates and their families. Parents, if you have ideas to enhance our drive-thru graduation you'd like to share, please contact our school secretary, Deanna Barnes (dbarnes@eesd.net), or the principal, Tina Croes (tcroes@eesd.net).
In addition, soon we will be making arrangments for graduation gown check-out/pick-up. Some of you would like the opportunity to have your graduate's gown at home in order to take pictures. We would love to extend that opportunity to you by the middle of May (more details to come). Students would keep the gown until our graduation. We would have a plan for the collection of the gowns after graduation.
Finally, many are wondering whether or not there will be a gathering for graduates. Traditionally, there would be 8th-grade graduation activities including a Six Flags trip, BBQ, and dance. Again, we still do not know the state and local guidelines that will be in place in a month or beyond. Our best guess is that we will still not be able to gather in large groups. So at this time, there is not a plan for gatherings. However, we will continue to monitor the guidelines for gatherings and social distancing as we move through the remainder of the school year.

STRUGGLING ACCESSING YOUR CHILD'S CURRICULUM?
HAVING INTERNET ISSUES?
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS (FAQs)
Q: Will new Kindergarten assessments still take place in May as planned?
A: No. Due to the current public health and safety restrictions, Kindergarten assessments scheduled for May 2020 will have to be postponed until the end of summer. The date still is to be determined. We will contact you with further information as soon as it is known. Thank you for your patience.
Q: When will I be able to retrieve personal items my child has left in his/her desk at school?
A: We do not have a safe way of collecting these items and distributing them from a public health standpoint at this time. Our main focus and planning as been on launching and supporting our digital distance learning format at this time. As soon as we can shift this focus, likely after a few weeks, our district leadership team will be making a plan for safely distributing personal items as well as collecting school library books.
Q: Is graduation canceled?
A: At this point, the chances of our traditional graduation don't look good. However, it is still too early to make the definitive call. We have plans to celebrate our graduates with an alternative to a traditional graduation ceremony depending on the social distancing requirements down the road. We WILL honor the Class of 2020, so stay tuned!
Q: Will there be a 2020-2021 teacher request week?
A: There will be a teacher request week, but our first priority is to ensure our distance learning model is off to a good start. Please watch the Monday newsletter FAQ section for further information.
Q: My child would like to turn in their enrichment packet that was completed before Spring Break. We will be able to turn in this packet?
A: Students can hold onto the packets for now as we do not have a safe way of collecting them from a public health standpoint at this time. If that changes, we will make a plan for collection for those who have saved it and want to turn it in.
Q: Why am I receiving late notices for overdue library books when school is closed and I have no way to return books?
A: Our library system has a feature that automatically generates and sends overdue library notices. Until it was brought to our attention, it was one of those things we didn't think about. The feature has since been turned off. You shouldn't receive overdue library book notices going further.
Q: When will we be able to return library books and/or completed packet work?
A: Our main focus right now is making sure we are prepared to move forward with distance learning on April 14th. After that, we will look at safe ways to bring in library books and completed packets that parents wish to return.
Q: I ordered spring pictures. How and when will I receive them?
A: Lifetouch has been contacted about spring pictures. Like many businesses, they do not have employees coming in to complete non-essential work at this time. They cannot give a timeframe as to when this will happen until some of the restrictions by the state/country have been lifted. They do have the images, so my best guess is there will be a delay in receiving these pictures. How you will receive the pictures is still unknown at this time.
Q: I ordered a yearbook. Will BC still have one for 2019-20?
A: The answer is yes. Lifetouch has communicated that if we do not return to school this school year, they will arrange for a late pick-up or they will mail the books directly to families who ordered one. The last day to order was April 19, 2020.
