6th Grade News!
Central Middle School
From Our Principal
Recently our 6th grade students set up their Infinite Campus student portal accounts. As they prepare for 7th grade, it's important for them to begin taking more and more ownership of their learning. Having access to the portal allows students to check their grades and attendance just as you do! Please remind your child that teachers are only required to update their grade books once a week. Grading takes time and effort, but teachers work as quickly as possible to give students feedback quickly. As we wrap up this third nine-weeks, please also remind your student that grades in 6th grade are officially recorded each semester. It's important that work be completed and turned in on time, but the final grade will not be reflected on a report card until the end of the second semester. Thank you for your help in this matter!

English and Literacy
In Mrs. Frank's English classes we are researching disasters-natural or man-made. We are then constructing a four paragraph compare/contrast essay. Students have been given a rubric. It will be due before spring break, so they will have homework this week.
Math!
Mrs. Turnbow's 6th grade math classes will be reviewing the Geometry concepts we have learned over the last few weeks and assessing those standards on Tuesday. We will then take a mock OSTP Thursday and Friday so we can determine what will need to be more heavily reviewed between now and the actual OSTP in April.
Science and Social Studies!
In Mrs. Anderson's social studies classes will conclude our unit on Mexico right before spring break. On Friday we will take a shortened version of the U.S. Citizenship test to see how well we would do if we had to take it to gain citizenship. The week after spring break we will begin our NAFTA projects.
Have a great weekend!
In Ms. Clark's science classes, we are going to color the similar and different organelles of Plant and Animal Cells. Our major focus is on how the organelles help the cell maintain homeostasis, and to that end we will work toward committing to memory the structure of function of those cells and organelles.
